While I did not actually stay here (I was offered another rental close by due to the holiday crowds--which I loved!), the location is amazing and Frederick the owner is "the guy" for any and all things Puerto Viejo. He became an instant friend and helped me sort out all kinds of logistics--I even jumped on the back of his motorcycle for a complete tour of town, including all the best HH deals, banks and groceries. He knew exactly the right surf instructor, helped me get a bike rented and brought fresh water. As a solo traveler, it was really comforting to have someone check in on me. Highly, highly recommend! The access to Banana Azul was a huge perk!!

Great place for your money, friendly, helpful owners, very close to the Banana azul beach hotel were you can use sun loungers for free! Owners will sort you with anything you need like will buy you a water, will give you an advice on anything you need. I definatelly would recommend to rent a bike so you can cycle to other beaches! I supposed to stay 1 week but ended up staying 1 month! Will be back! Thanks for all

Frederick, the owner, was very welcoming and extremely helpful and friendly. Simple room, very large and basic but good value for money. Close to Banana Azul resort and you can use all of their facilities - restaurant, beach chairs, bar, etc. The hotel staff were great.

The apartment on the second floor had two queen size beds, a table wiith two chairs, end tables next to the beds, typical open Costa Rican closet. No drawers. Plus a kitchen with a fridge, hot plate, toaster oven and coffee maker, plates, utensils & cups. There were three ceiling fans and no air conditioning. The ceiling fans sufficed 80% of the time. He does have units with AC on the first floor.
The owner Frederick Green lives in a house in front of the cabinas. He is very hands on. When my ceiling light went out, he was there immediately to put in another bulb. He ordered 5 gallon jugs of water for me and installed it for me. He is very attentive to his guests. There is weekly cleaning with change of sheets & towels. A big plus a swimming pool. Not every guest house has one.

Within walking distance (<2 minutes) to the beach, a portion tucked away in a scenic locale with huts for shade and lay back chairs for a quick nap. Walking or biking distance to town (20 min, either along beach or road, or 5 min, respectively) for shops, bank, and local food, or just a few minutes from the closest bus stop (best travel option if not renting a bike) and mini-mart (with whatever you might need!). On top of its close proximity to everything of interest and of necessity, the room itself is simple and comfortable: beds are soft, fans that keep plenty of air circulating, a little kitchenette for all your home cook needs, and a clean, functioning bathroom (don't flush the toilet paper!) settle the deal. All for under fifty dollars a night.

If that wasn't enough to convince you that Be My Guest Cabinas is an ideal place to stay in Puerto Viejo, you need just meet the host(s): Freddy (and family, his pleasant wife and two energetic kids) is not only a gracious and kind host, but a friend after only a short time of interacting with him. Freddy was able to help my girlfriend and I see the wonders of Costa Rica, more than we even knew of, without breaking the bank. Without Freddy, this trip would have been much less fulfilling.

Still questioning it? Don't. If you want to see the beauty of Costa Rica, and save enough money for rent after over ten days of experience, go here.
