We really enjoyed our stay here. It was reasonably priced. We were at the endo of our 3 weeks in CR so wanted a place to lay back. thsi was nice. Even tho there were 2 rooms there was only the 2 of us. but there would have been planty of room for another couple or kids. There is another day bed and couch or some ne crash on if you had kids. The place was clean and well maintained. The pool is only 18 inches deep but woul dbe nic eto cool off n if you wanted but we did not. the big table on the covered patio was awesome to eat at or have drink. We used some candles and enjoyed drinking wine in the evening here. There is a TV but no cable or satelite hook up but there were several DVD's to watch if you wanted to. The kitchen is nice. No microwave which would have been nice but we did fine with the toaster oven and stove. There are 3 bikes to rent if you like as well. We walked alot and it is not far to the beach but it is about 15 mintues or so. We wished it was closer to enjoy more frequently. But the location is nice. It is well off the main rd and then off that rd again, but not far. This rd is a dead end so there is no traffic at all. The hired man was excellent. He lived in a separte quarters attached to the main house but with a totally separtate entrance etc. He did not bother us unless we needed something or informatin. He was great to contact a taxi, give local information and share a great conversation with. He was very knowledgeable about the local history, politics, and environment. The area overall is very nice. We went to Maaanzanillo and Veijo several times. It is right in the middle of the two towns being a little closer to PV. It would have been nice to be a little closer to P.V. to take in some evening events. But we could have easilly taken a taxi so it was our choice. The house area is dark at night which we really liked. ake a little flash light as ours came in handly to walk down to the store which was very handy to us. There are a few restraunts to enjoy within walking distance as well. Even though we woudl like to be closer to the water front we would stay here agian if nothing was available on the water or costs were too high. Pice wise we thought this place was ver reasonable. Again if you had a nother couple it becomes even more so. We paid $120/night in toronto on the trip down so $85 was good by us.

Our family of 5 lived in the main house for 1 1/2 month. It was totally perfect. The house and surroundings were absolutely beautiful. The neighbors are very sweet, always smiling and saying hi and it's very quite. In the tree just in front of the house we saw toucans up really close and we also saw howler monkeys, hummingbirds and frogs. It's a short walk to the beach and close to two supermarket s and the best restaurant, Jungle Love-You have to try their chocolate cake! The bus stop to eks. Puerto Viejo is just at the end of the road. There are bikes included and close to several attractions eks. The Jaguar Rescue Center which is a beautiful ride. So if You come to Playa Chiquita do yourself the favour and choose La Selvatica! My husband also proposed there and Daniel and Jeff made it unique, outstanding and truely beautiful!
Thank You again so much for everything, you guys are fantastic!!!
With all of our love Andrè, Sascha, Zoe, Melua and Noomi Kinzella

Our family of five adults spent nine days at La Slevatica with mixed reviews. All five of us were experienced travellers. One spent three years traveling around the world. The location in Playa Chiquita for us was perfect. It is a quiet place except for howler monkeys. It is also just off the main road and somewhat isolated. This is both a good thing and bad. The beaches are very close. You can walk or use the bikes at the house. A grocery store and a few restaurants are right at the main road. The action and night life is in Puerto Viejo which is accessible by taking a local bus by day and returning at night by taxi.

The house itself is rustic. There is a caretaker. There is a furnished kitchen. We cooked several meals. The beds are ok not great and the pillows smelled damp but this is the rain forest. There is no air-conditioning but several ceiling fans. Unfortunately, the house is not safe in terms of your possessions. We always locked the house but it was broken into and a smalle computer and camera were ripped-off. The in-house safe is made out of wood and is easy to break into and the main bedroom has windows that are lockable but vents are located next to the windows. This is how they broke into the house. They just reached their hands through the vents and unlocked the bedroom window. Also there were rumors about neighbors and a former maintenance man possibly being involved in the theft . The point is that you are seen as a tourist and as such you are a possible target for theft.

I waited several months to write this review. I wanted to be fair and honest. I was hoping that the owners would reachout to us about the theft but did not. Our family had a great trip except for the theft. One of my favorite expeirences was a twenty minute walk from the house to the Jaguar Rescue Center where I got to hold howler monkeys!

Thank you for your objective comments on the vacation rental and the location.

Unfortunately, the circumstances about the stolen computer and camera described in the review do not match the ones offered to the caretaker upon reporting the incident. The guests reported that the items were left beside the window and not locked in the lock-box. During the pre-booking communication, we advise all our guests to exercise common sense safety precautions for the protection of selves and valuables. The lock-box at the house has never been broken into and the items would have most likely been saved should they have been placed there.

We did however take the incident very seriously and implemented the following measures to prevent future incidents:
- the property was fenced in
- the caretaker on site at the time of the incident was replaced with a reliable property manager as of Jul 25, 2009
- lock-boxes were refitted with reinforced locks
- guests who express concerns about safety of their valuables have the option to safely store these items with the caretaker on site.

We regret the incident, however trust that it could have been avoided should safety measures available on site been employed. Similar to most vacation rentals in Costa Rica, we will continue to advise future guests to use lock-boxes for the protection of their valuables.

My girlfriend and I spent, seven days at La Selvatica in May of 2010, and it was a magical experience. Very relaxing location, everything that you need is either a short walk or bike ride away. The people are friendly and laid back. The food is excellent, and the accommodations are more than sufficient. La Selvatica is a destination, but it also makes a great base from which to explore.

Everything about La Selvatica had a tone of excellence. The location in Playa Chiquita is quieter than Puerto Viejo (save for the abundance of howler monkeys and birds!), with the beach, a few good restaurants and two grocery stores in short walking distance. The local bar with pool tables was under renovation when we were there. The house itself was elegant, comfortable, and easy to get to. The gal running the place was attentive and friendly. The bikes that were included were in good shape - we rode them every day to a new beach (there are so many, and they're all breathtaking!). Some day trips we took were kayaking (ocean & river), chocolate making tour (and eating!), ziplining, Manzanillo, Puerto Viejo, Playa Cocles....so much to do and see here. What a great place and a perfect stay.
