So great to be so close to the beach and walking distance to the best restaurants. Rebecca really stood out as the friendliest, kindest person. She even found some howler monkey's and spotted them in a tree for us to spy. highly recommend!

Room tip: Facing the beach ideally

We are currently booked for 6 nights, but it is worth it for us to bail after only 2 nights without a refund. Let me start with the good: great location in Tamarindo on the beach. Beautiful beach, nice surf but a bit rocky, sunbathing areas between hotel proper and beach are amazing, with a stone wall separating the beach goers from the hotel guests. The lobby and dining areas are open air, marble-floored and very impressive. The bar is open air under a palapa roof with ceiling fans keeping it comfortable.
The BAD: Beds are horribly hard and pillows are large, round foam blocks. The room is tiny and the bathroom is single occupancy only with the shower being a quarter-round glass enclosure in the corner. Good luck picking up your shampoo bottle off the floor if you’re more than 5’10”. No hot water in the shower or the sink. Just lukewarm after running it for 5 minutes. You might bring earplugs because the bathroom fan sounds like a jet engine spooling up from only 5 feet away. At night you can hear the thumping of the 70s disco music from the bar vibrating through the walls. Fortunately, it is not all disco. At 6 a.m. you will wake up to elevator jazz streaming in from the bar restaurant. Unless you smoke keep the door to your room closed at all times. It seems no one here got the word that smoking is bad for you. If you are a girl and by yourself do not walk on the beach at night - it is not safe. The local addicts hang out on the stone wall between the beach and the hotel, and on the street corners adjacent to the hotel. They offer coke, crack, meth and acid. Need I say more?

Room tip: Go to the Westin.

We were at the JW Marriott in Guanacaste, which was the most horrible hotel I’ve stayed in a very long time.

We checked out early and Diria I was able to accommodate us with an ocean view room. The hotel was clean, friendly, and close to absolutely everything. If we didn’t change to this hotel I would’ve never enjoyed my Costa Rican experience. I enjoyed the outdoor massage in the cabana, and the beach and surf lessons. The breakfast was actually included and it was exceptional. We will happily stay here again and return to Costa Rica thanks to the Tamarindo Diria!!

My only recommendation for improvement, would be to install elevators, because there’s only stairs. This poses no problem for our active family, but if someone has knee issues, or any medical reason to avoid stairs, I could see this being a problem.

My family and I visited in December-2020 (kids are 10 and 7), and we all loved it!

The hotel is directly on the beach - just what we wanted. When we weren't on a tour we spent all day at the beach. And it's a perfect beach for a family ... the kids took surfing lessons, we played in the sand, we played in the surf ... we were walking distance to plenty of shops and restaurants.

Brayan at the tours desk was also tremendously helpful, arranging all of our tours in advance and helping us make needed adjustments on the fly. We did a (1) sunset catamaran and snorkeling trip, (2) turtle watching tour, (3) horseback riding, and (4) safari boat tour. They were all lots of fun for the whole family!

We had a great time in Tamarindo. This hotel sits on the beach and has many amenities. Our first room had something wrong with it and they quickly moved us to a newer/better room. The family pool area was closed because they have to be at a lower capacity (COVID-19). Our kids were bummed but the surf made up for it. That pool being closed meant that families could go to the adult only pool. I've been an adult on vacation without kids and I'm sure I would have been upset if I thought I was staying in an adults only section. The front desk and all the staff were great. We would definitely stay here again just to be on the beach and in the middle of all the action.
