My wife and I arrived today to this hotel to enjoy a nice weekend in Tamarindo. In the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, making sure your room is clean and sanitized is imperative. When my wife wanted to wash her hands the lavatory was full of hair from what I guess was a previous guest and clogged. My wife decided to report the problem at the front desk and asked for a solution, the lady told my wife "are you sure the lavatory was like that before you arrived"? We had just 15 minutes in the hotel by the way... My wife replied, are you implying that it was me who caused that mess? We only wanted someone to clean the room because we were concerned about the pandemic, that's all, and obviously the cleaning service did not do their job well. The lady at the desk told us that all cleaning staff was not available and we had to wait till next day to get the room sanitized. She called the owner (we guess) and then the lady offered to send someone to check, or if we wanted to take another room. But all this after implying that we caused all this problem. It is disappointing to realize the poor customer service some people have, specially when the economy is in bad shape and we Costa Ricans are trying to help this touristic sector... Not sure if I will return to this hotel or recommend it to others.

HI Dario,

Thank you for your comments. All situations help our hotel do better in the future. Knowing our staff I am sure they were just as surprised as you were. As you can see by our many positive reviews, this is not normal for our hotel. We are glad it was possible to change your room. We hope you enjoyed your time at the beach.

This is such a great hotel. It’s beautiful, clean, the staff is lovely, and they’re right in front of the beach. It’s “far” away from the action enough to not hear one soul at night, but close enough to walk 5 minutes and be in town.
We traveled with our 7 month old and had a lovely time.
We slept with the door open and the screen door closed and enjoyed ocean sounds all night long.
Very secure, beyond comfortable, and close enough to everything while guaranteeing some tranquility.
The hotel also has its own beach hangout area before you get to the actual beach... it’s just an amazing property. Oh! And the sunsets from here are spectacular!!!!

The beachfront bungalow was the perfect setting for a couple’s getaway. The bungalow was equipped with everything we needed and a top notch view of the beach. The service was great. We had the pool to ourselves most days, and the private lounge area on the beach was a great bonus. We even saw monkeys while drinking our coffee! It was an easy and beautiful walk to get to the busier areas.

Two outstanding customer service moments: 1) we had an early excursion before the first breakfast was available. The chef put together a breakfast for us that night so we could take it to the room to have when we woke up. 2) we had a flat tire the day we were leaving and the hotel security insisted on changing it for us.

Location is decent given it's right on the beach but about a 10 minute walk to where all the action is, which is better to walk by beach than street since it's a dirt road leading to the hotel. All the outdoor furniture was old and dated.. This hotel has so much "boutique hotel" potential but its old and out dated...it needs a "Tulum" style makeover.

Hi. Thanks for your input. We will look around and see what we can update. The building you stayed in is only 2 years old, so everything is new. But the patio chairs may be weathered as they are exposed to the sun and rain of our tropical oasis.

Highlights : Avoid super spreader crowds, this hotel is ideal for some peace and quiet. Lots of fun things to do, very warm and hospitable staff, strict enforcement of Covid19 protocols. Location is away from rocky areas, and miles of gradual sloping waters ideal for bobbing in the ocean, sunbathing and just spending time in peaceful solitude.

My wife and I decided to take an unconventional Christmas beach getaway. Our priority is peace and quiet, away from crowds and miles of beach to enjoy. By scanning the beach front area on google maps, satellite view -- you can see that this area sits comfortably away from super spreader crowds and rocky areas at the Diria beachfront. It has its own private beach, and the hotel is literally 20 steps away from your room to the pristine waters.

The hotel has 29 units only, and does not have an inhouse restaurant -- and we correctly figured the crazy party goers will most probably hang out at the nearby Langosta Beach Club and Diria areas. It has a decent sized pool, just enough where you can take a dip and cool off, read a good book and sip a cocktail drink. Do not worry too much about not having a restaurant, you can literally take 50 steps to Capitan Suizo nearby. And there are tons of restaurants nearby.

The staff are warm and accommodating. I give Fernanda, Kendall and the front desk staff special mention. Once you get to know them, they will gladly offer advice on the best tours, better joints to eat and spend your US dollars. Fair warning : everything in Tamarindo is about 30% to 40% more expensive.

Best things we did:
1. massage at the beach... After a long 4 hour flight, getting a massage while listening to the waves is like an out of body experience.
2. save money by buying groceries at Pura Vida and make your own breakfast. To our surprise, we found Bays Muffins and an assortment of cheeses, wines and cocktail drinks. This alone will save you about $200. The hotel only offers continental breakfast, so after 4 days you will most definitely crave for better breakfast meals. Also, try Noi Bistro if you want homey bfast food.
3. enjoy wildlife -- we got woken up by a troop of howler monkeys, saw them climb and swing tree to tree. Iguanas, Hermit crabs and birds of all kinds are abundant. you can also ride a horse nearby
4. learn to surf -- recommend on hiring Carlos to teach you the art of wave running. He is a pro and very easy to talk to
5. use whatsapp -- its easier to communicate to everyone - the front desk, the driver, restaurants and using whatsapp. Btw, I have an international data plan, so it helped a ton.
6. enjoy restaurants and fun places by walking at the beach, not the main roads. The roads are unpaved and annoying to get around to. A better way is to walk in the beach. Better views and more pleasant experience.
7. explore the Turtle tour - the route is arduous and somewhat dangerous -- but I got to see a 3 foot green pacific sea turtle waddle through the beach into the ocean. pretty amazing.

About covid protocols - The staff is good about this. Before you come in the front desk, you will be asked to wash your hands outdoors, and wear a mask. Hand sanitizers and wash areas are abundant. Btw, no one wears masks on the beach --- thats ok since you have plenty of outdoor space. I would avoid the Diria area and the Langosta Beach Club... you can easily tell that these areas attract party animals who can care less about contacting covid. One big tip: You can identify the "warning" areas when you see a police car or a police observation bus nearby.

Just want to pass on what we have learned so you can be safe, and enjoy a little piece of paradise!

Room tip: Get the seaside view, ask for specials and discounts by contacting the staff directly
