Our wedding party of 60+ people mostly stayed across the street! We came here multiple times throughout the week! It was a perfect spot to hang on the beach and have a few drinks!

So disappointing. Always trust your gut. When you aren't greeted in a friendly and welcoming manner, and then aren't brought a menu or anything for 10 minutes, just leave. We should have. It was our first dinner after arriving on a red eye and driving down to Samara and we were probably too exhausted to react properly and just wanted a good meal at a lovely place on the beach.
Started out ok, decent salad. Guacamole was overly creamed, no texture, could have been from those plastic squeeze packets. Sad. But then the special arrived. We ordered too. It was to be the special snapper, fish of the day. We had such high hopes. They took a fish and then killed it again by sticking it in the fryer until the texture was firm like overcooked beef. Horrible. So sad! Properly fried fish should be nice and crispy on the outside and still tender on the inside. This was not to be. :(

The waitstaff are mostly Belgians who are interested in chilling with their surfer and yoga bros and bro-ettes. If you're a local immigrant *expat* maybe you'll be welcomed and maybe they won't murder your fish. I'd prefer to be in a Costa Rican run place, speak Spanish, and not be surrounded by annoying English speakers who look down on visitors. Or something. That overcooked fish will be a memorable meal, but not in a good way.

We went to Lo Que Hay as it was recommended by a friend who lives in Samara.
The restaurant is right on the beach with the most tranquil atmosphere. Also, local guys do a fire show on the beach for a few $ in tips which ads to the experience
The first night we had a male waiter who was extremely attentive and polite. Food was out of this world - we got some tacos and shrimp/calamari salad plus few other things. Kids had their burgers which they said was the best ever.

I loved it so much that I insisted to go there the following night. We got a table right away and just kept waiting. We saw a waitress taking orders all around us but noone came by for over 20 minutes. Finally I asked her to let us know who is our waiter and she said she'll take our order. She doesn't speak English at all (not to fault her at all as we are in a Spanish speaking country, but it does add to communication difficulty especially since we have food allergies as a concern). The owner came by to translate and we were then waiting for our food. Three meals came out and they realized she never put in my youngest kids order. She never came once to ask if we'd like to have drinks or anything. Not a smile, not a nod.

My wife had mahi mahi which was delicious, I had a tuna steak which tasted like I am chewing on a cardboard so breaded with sesame that you could barely see the fish.

Also, this restaurant does not take credit cards, just cash.

Overall, the experience was great as we were being accomodated by this older gentleman who works there - funny and pleasant. But I wish my experience remained as I remembered it on the first night.
