We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Mangaby. Great beds and pillows, huge, very clean rooms, beautiful pool. Very uncomfortable chaises by the pool though! Friendly people and convenient to Liberia airport. The beach was lovely for an early morning walk.

Stayed: February 2018

We had a great experience staying at he Hotel ManGaby!

Pros:
- super friendly, chill staff
- delicious breakfast included with the stay
- clean rooms
- nice shower
- we’ll maintained pool (although we opted for the beach so not much time at the pool), it’s got some good shade though, if one needed a respite from the heat and sun
- we got in super super late, the hotel trusted the guard with our hotel key so we would be able to access our room after office hours! (Such a pura vida attitude, it was great)
- refrigerator in the room
- good AC, bc it’s very warm outside
- a nice and easy five minute walk to Playa Hermosa, which is a super chill and beautiful beach
- nice restaurant and bar choices right at the entrance to this beach

Cons
- our lock box battery was dead, but not a real problem bc we had locks for our luggage
- there really were no cons

I would definitely recommend this hotel and would be happy to stay here again!

The hotel is in a great location as it is only about 200 meters to the beach. The grocery store is within walking distance. The hotel has two storeys. The pool is small but not many people use it and there are many lounge chairs. Pool towels are available with no fuss. The a.c. worked well as did the wifi. Check in and check out was efficient. The bed was good and there is little traffic noise. When we checked in there were no plugs for the two sinks. After trying two different plugs for the kitchen sink, they still did to work so we had to use a plastic bag to keep the water in the sink. There is only hot water in the shower. The furniture is difficult to sit in and the t.v. is at the ceiling so watching it was difficult. People do smoke on their decks so being downwind can be an issue. Our room was on the lower level so we could hear the footsteps of the people above us as well as people going up and down the stairs. We could hear voices outside our room just after sunrise. There are mosquitoes in area and the wall had some markings on it from killed mosquitoes and we added to that total. The owner is a very courteous person and goes out of his way to make your stay enjoyable.

just back from a 3 night stay and the hotel is in a great location so close to the beach. Breakfast was delicious but so slow we ate our other meals directly across the street at Coco Viquez, great prices and selection. Easy to get to from LIberia airport, we also did the Congo Trails ziplines and they picked us up right from hotel and back. Hotel has an absolutely Lovely pool. Definitely recommend.

Playa Hermosa isn’t a beachfront town like its neighbor to the south: bustling hustling Playa del Cocos. But change is coming, as developments crown the hills above the horseshoe-shaped beach, and a large condo project is underway just 2 blocks to the beach…and across the street from Hotel Mangaby.

Mangaby (the name is an amalgam of the owner’s parent’s names) is near the main access to the beach, and features a fantastic garden. The pool is “fed” by a faux rock formation waterfall (which needs a touch-up), the inspiration for the Hotel’s colorful logo. The waterfall runs from 6:15 a.m. until about 9 pm.

The good: clean, spacious room; nice balcony (from which we saw countless birds); big fridge, hot shower, beach towels.

The not-so-good: broken safe, thin mattress, harsh bright light outside the room, no coffeemaker. In fact, in this Land of The Bean, it was impossible to get a cup much before 7:15 a.m. (An in-room coffeemaker would make for happier guests and less-harried breakfast staff.)

The hotel restaurant offered a decent breakfast (tipico or continental). All the restaurant staff were friendly: Wendy, Raquel, Reynaldo, Tanya. Likewise with the front desk staff.

My main criticism is of the needless noise, morning and night. Each day at 6 a.m., there was some commotion (by the restaurant kitchen, maybe). Laughing, singing, arguing. And on 2 successive nights, the pool was taken over by screaming kids, (as their parents sat by impassively with ear-buds firmly tucked-in…Model Parents). The night-shift manager should police this, or turn off the pool lights or something. I spoke with fellow guests who also complained about it.

Proximity to the ocean, lush garden, pleasant staff, birdwatching from your balcony. But how about less noise and more coffee?

Room Tip: Avoid the pool area
