We (family with triplets aged 10) spent two nights at the Arenal Montechiari. The little lodges are a decent size with refrigerators and comfortable beds. There are bed side lamps in the rooms now so those concerned about the strip lighting comments needn’t worry!

The gardens are beautifully planted with lots of colourful flowers; it’s a lovely place to hang out. Others had mentioned that the pool isn’t heated but it was warm enough for that not to matter. Our daughters spent hours in there.

The restaurant only serves breakfast. It was the standard fayre with lots of fresh fruit, fresh eggs, rice/beans mix, etc. It’s an easy ten minute walk into town for lunch/dinner where there are lots of options. We had a good meal at La Fonda 506.

There’s a lot to do the the area. Cannot recommend Ecoglide zip wiring highly enough (see separate review). It was epic!!!! Also enjoyed our walk up the volcano and an evening at the hot springs.

Stayed here for 2 nights in a tour of Costa Rica. Rooms are spacious and functional although ours only had one long strip light (were later told others did have bedside lamps), however this didn’t really detract from the overall enjoyment of the stay.

The gardens surrounding the lodges were pretty and bursting with birds, we watched the hummingbirds from our patio area. We also saw a sloth hanging from the tree by reception, with a number of iguanas basking atop the trees. At night the sound of frogs and toads was enchanting... Arenal volcano looms high above the lodge, softened by the bursts of colour from the flowers. A great backdrop!

Breakfast was on a par with other lodges we stayed at, fruit options, toast and rice and beans. We are vegan so had limited options but plentiful.

We ate out in La Fortuna on an evening as it was a short, easy walk into the town from the hotel.

We had our laundry done here, $6/kilo, and the staff were courteous and helpful. WiFi is available in reception and the restaurant like a lot of lodges/hotels we visited.

Couldn’t really have asked for more (well maybe a bedside lamp) but hardly an issue!

We did a 2 week tour around Costa Rica and this was one of my favourite hotels. Each room is essentially a wooden hut, which was spacious and clean. The pool area was nice and the gardens were immaculately kept with a great view of the volcano (when clear skies!). Breakfast was decent also with a good choice. Yes WiFi only available close to reception, but not an issue. There is a little shop 200 yards up the road on the left hand side with a friendly owner selling snacks etc. Town is probably a 15 minute walk and felt safe.

I had the bad luck that my travel agency booked 2 nights here. My worst stay of traveling in Columbia, Panama and Costa Rica. Never experienced poorer service quality than here compared to 12 other small and nice hotels and B&Bs. At first glance the lodge looks nicely set in a garden with small huts. Unfortunately the huts are poorly equipped, hardly hangers in the bathroom to hang up moist towels and moist clothes or equipment in plain rain season. The ceiling light makes you feel being in a railway station. The wifi only works in front of the reception, where people gather together like on the curbsides of Cuba in front of internet offices. Totally not understandable since WiFi worked excellently anywhere else in town. The worst was the breakfast. I have nowhere been offered worse breakfast quality: cheap and burned mass food. Burned pancakes, cheap ugly fruit, no fresh juice etc- and that in the country of wonderful tropical fruits. Only one friendly service lady trying her best to cope with preparing food / eggs and hand out clean cups or plates. I had escaped from my room in early morning due to employees mowing the lawn at 7 am in front of my hut, but was deeply disappointed. Terrible experience and a true nightmare.

Had a couple of nights here during our stay. Cabins where spacious and clean and the had refrigerators, which is a plus.
Friendly staff.
This place only has Wi-fi in the restaurant and in the reception area.
They got two pools, one large and one a bit small. When we visited, the large pool was closed for some reason.
