“Hufe crowds”

The garden itself was not too crowded. Maybe one has to pay to go in so not many tourist did even though it wasn't expensive. Gardens were ok..nothing spectacular. Lotsa shops and eateries outside the gardens

I have been going here for many years. In more recent times it has attracted srteet hawkers and mobs of people, however, the original charm is still evident. The dumpling houses and great tea houses are still there, still so popular, and the ancient timber floors eateries are a true relic of the past. The bridges to the temples and the sonderful old buildings are a reminder of what China was a very tone time ago. I highly recommend this area and don't miss the wonderful Shanghainese Dumplings

“Nice place to visit in Shanghai”
Reviewed 27 February 2012

It is definitely a tourist trap...but most people reading this will likely be a tourist anyway. It is easy enough to get to. You can take a train or simply walk from the Bund to here. The entrance fee is very cheap. There are a lot of souvenir and gift shops located around the area as well.

I recommend it because it is one of the few places in Shanghai that doesn't resemble any metropolitan big city with big shiny buildings. It retains some of the traditional Chinese architecture and culture that one would like to see when traveling in China. It has a lot of buildings and ponds that are very photogenic.

“Worth visiting”
Reviewed 26 February 2012

This section of Shanghai can be very busy and crowded but worth visiting to see some of the old city. While there are many old buildings in this section of the city many of the vendor (looking for tourists) have set up shops here.

“Yu Yuan Garden”
Reviewed 25 February 2012

At first, it appears to be only a collection of unique buildings with shops and a water feature. Spend the time and go into the historical garden - the entrance can be tough to find but provides some tranquility in the busy city (at least in the morning). Also, make sure you try the Nanjing Dumpling Shop - well worth waiting in the line!
