Great meal for 8 people. Dishes a little small in size. Delicious dragon beans in garlic and yummy spicy tofu. Food came fairly quickly and is reasonably priced.
Always a good place to visit for quick food at any time of day.

Thank Shanghailiz

The name of this restaurant is "Little Town Story" but somehow it got translated as Charmant. As a Taiwanese in Shanghai (who lives in Xuhui District (xiangyang SRiad), It's a shame not to know this restaurant until today. This is probably, by far, the best authentic Taiwanese cuisine in Shanghai I ever tasted. There are so many dishes you can choose from the menu. Thus we chose plum sauce marinated cherry tomato and braised platter containing beef shank, tripe and bean curd as our appetizers. The cherry tomato soaked with plum sauce is great to initiate your appetize and fresh your mouth after the meal. Beef shank and tripe were cooked perfectly, juicy, tender, beefy with excellent texture and taste. The bean curd was braised perfectly to be a great appetize. We then ordered sautéed assorted mushrooms, stir fried bitter melon with salty egg as well as water spinach with Sambal sauce. There are so many different kinds of mushrooms in the dish to have different texture, flavor to make a healthy and delicious dish. The water spinach with Sambal sauce is well balance to have the sauce just right to the vegetable. The bitter melon with salty egg is the best dish of this kind, not salty, not bitter but taste perfectly. We ordered the stuffed fish ball soup and it is very authentic Taiwanese style soup. Instead of steam rice, we ordered Sakura shrimp fried rice, it is a well done dish to have a lot of shrimp and cabbage. We then ordered a house shaved ice (combination shaved ice) to mark the perfect ending of this dinner. The meal is so good, we ordered another fried rice, another bitter melon dish and a Sakura shrimp cabbage to go for tomorrow lunch as well. If any Taiwanese have home sick, this authentic Taiwanese Restaurant can definitely cure you. If anyone who is interested to try a delicious Taiwanese cuisine or the wonderful shaved ice, you would not be disappointed to come here.

I am a fan of Taiwan food, as someone once explained Taiwan food is fusion Chinese food picking the best from each region.

I went there for lunch but place is most well known for providing late night snacks until 4:am in the morning.

This place has a very nice atmosphere. The waitstaff is attentive. The food is good. Great menu, good selection of dishes. The San Bei Ji - Three cup chicken - is great, regardless of the hour you get here. The noodles unfortunately only so, so.

Charmant is one of those restaurants where you could have been eating there for years, and then you go with a friend who orders some dishes, and suddenly all of your future orders have been affected.

My favorites include the cabbage salad as a starter, the clay pot eggplant (veggie or with minced pork), dragon beans fried in garlic, and the fried tofu. But I also could have included the strangely delicious shrimp-pineapple doughuts or even the simple, spicy wontons. And yes, the hot chocolate is among the best in Shanghai.

Charmant is also one of the few restaurants open late in the area, and has cast it in the role of dinner savior on late nights.
