It's more classy than Nanjing Road and less crowded which is what I pretty. Lots of shops, big and small.

In the heart of Shanghai, a lot of shops and plenty of food. Avoid summer, it is very hot and over-crowded.

It is good for people watching, nothing fun itself though. Grab a bite and stay a while at a cafe can be good, too, otherwise it is always crowded and noisy. Well, that's Shanghai.

In downtown Shanghai two main shopping roads, running parallel in some distance from east to west, and are competing in attracting customers.
Difficult to say, which is the better shopping area, but one thing of experience: The Shanghai people are more shopping in the Huaihai Road, the tourists - Foreigners but also Chinese - are concentrating more on the Nanjing Road.
I prefer Huaihai Road, also because Xintiandi is nearby, and it is a bit finer...
