Nearly 17 miles of broad flat beach (best at low tide), Benaulim is in the middle.
Apart from Colva, which is quite busy with daytrippers around late afternoon (for the sunset), it's almost deserted in most parts, and punctuated with a few clusters of beach shacks, so plenty of places to stop for rest and refreshments.
The southernmost end of the beach is quietest and ends at the mouth of a river, where you can see fishermen casting hand nets from the shallow waters. The very last shack is small and set back from the main part of the beach but still with a great view of the sea. We were the only two visitors and had an excellent lunch, in the company of about six friendly local lads (friends of the staff), chatting, laughing, and sharing stories.
Cycles can be hired for a basic Rs150 for one day, less for longer hires. Although they have only one gear, it's not at all hard effort on the sand along there.
