Boa Viagem Praia Hotel

Reviewed 7 April 2017 via mobile

Stayed here - just one night thankfully. Renovations ongoing and well due but they should shut or put a big notice on all booking sites to that effect.

Lift was dodgy and had to go to next floor up to get onto it. Air conditioning not working in the lobby and room unit noisy.

Breakfast was in keeping with the rest of the stay.

My tip - keep looking.

Boa tarde

Reviewed 31 March 2016

I have stayed at this Hotel several times over the past several years and always found it to be satisfactory. However, my most recent stay on March 30, 2016 was highly unsatisfactory as the hotel has come into disrepair and poor quality. I noted when I made the reservation that it was rated as 3-Stars, but 1-star is more truthful. Here is a summary of my 1st few hours after check-in.
1. Hotel advertises WiFi in the rooms. Reality: it works for several minutes and then drops to zero and cannot obtain a consistent connection. Had to move to the lobby to obtain a connection.
2. Elevators stopped working at 5:45 pm and I had to walk up the 4 flights of stairs. It's very hot, no air conditioning.
3. The hallways are dark. I literally had to use a flash light to negotiate walking the long narrow hallways and while waiting for an elevator. The Halls are not air conditioned so after the walk up the stairs and the long wait for the elevator in the hall my cloths were drenched in sweat.
4. The bed come with just sheets. If the air conditioner works that won't be enough.
5. The bar only has 4 bottle of alcohol....Vodka, Scotch, Brazilian Brandy and something local I didn't recognize.
6. Shower glass doors have a heavy off white film with "gunk" covering the bottom 5 inches of the glass door! Wall and bed lamps are hanging from the wall and cannot be straighten.
7. TV..............only 1 channel.

I seldom write negative reviews but I would strongly advise that you pass on this hotel!

Room Tip: You are best advised to just pass on this hotel!

I stayed at the hotel a few weeks ago. The bed was comfortable and the air conditioner was working great. Staff was pleasant and the view of the ocean was great. I recommend this hotel a fair price and great location.

The only thing that saves this hotel is the location: straight in front of the beach with a nice view to the sea (if you are lucky enough to have a room facing the sea).

The hotel is not far from the city center, despite you will likely need to take a taxi as the street that connects that side of Recife to the center are not very pedestrian-friendly.

The service is terrible and nobody speaks English, not even at the reception. For some reason they lost my reservation, I arrived in the evening after a 14-hours journey and it took me almost 1 day to figure out a solution (the only option to stay was to pay the first night as a guest, although it was not necessary when the day after they realized that the issue was a mistake on their side).

The staff at the reception didn't even help when I ask them to call a taxi. They told me to wait at the taxi line in front at the hotel (waiting under the sun).

The rooms are very old. They work, but most of them are very noisy due to the air conditioning system (as already mentioned in several reviews).

The food at the restaurant is terrible. The breakfast is decent.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view

I do not know exactly where to start about the Praia Boa Viagem as it had been so long since I had encountered a property in need of so much work. I believe that there are youth hostels that are cleaner and more comfortable than this property. The year-old TA reviews discussing the Praia's conditions were sadly way too accurate. The only acceptable aspect of my stay was the efforts of the front counter staff. Between their Portugues and my Español, we were able to communicate and resolve the broken WiFi (yes that was poor, too). Breakfast - included in my room charges - was acceptable and completely forgettable.

My room - 1204 faced the ocean and has a great view. The room also had a great smell, poorly masked by cleaners. The walls are dirty, the bare lightbulbs remind one of a college dorm room or prison, the bathroom's have bad water pressure besides the fact that the water is not potable. The 2 single beds were like marshmallows and had no support. My associates' rooms can be characterized in the same manner, although at least my room had a view and a window that opened about 10cm.

This is a property to avoid. This is a property that experienced travelers would/could/should avoid. Even at a sub-$100 price point - there are better options in Recife and I urge you to find one and avoid this place completely.

Room Tip: Choose a room at another hotel. Rooms facing the beach will get more noise from traffic and motorcyc...
