Glenburn might just be one of those places that you never want to leave. It is designed to feel as if you are guests in someone's home. Our entire experience there was extraordinary. We stayed in one of the rooms in the original bungalow. There were two off us, but "Kamcanchenga" would comfortable sleep 5. The furnishings recalled an earlier age. They were charming, clean, functional and "calming" The views of the mountains and tea estate were incomparable. The tour of the tea factory is a must (who knew it was so complex?). We also walked to the fishing lodge for a barbecue lunch and were then driven back after a very relaxing snooze by the river.

The entire experience was luxurious whilst being both unusual and evocative of another time. We'd love to go back...

Room Tip: All the rooms are spectacular. We were in Kamcanchenga; only a hand-held shower if that's impor...

Two of us had 3 nights at Glenburn in Oct 2011. Thank goodness we stayed here AFTER Darjeeling as it would have been crushing to have moved on to another hotel after this one! I dubbed it "a Himalayan Hambleton Hall"! The setting is stunning, in the middle of extensive tea gardens, through which you can meander on walks with a friendly guide (we had some good bird-spotting too). The backdrop is amazing - see attached pictures of the view of Kanchenjunga from our window. Quality of accommodation (we were in the new, Waterlily Bungalow) is faultless. Our room was enormous with lovely high ceilings and beautifully fitted out. The family member responsible and the interior designer both have an excellent eye for both the quality of workmanship in the building itself, and for the finer detail of furnishings. Food was excellent quality and generous and the tea really WAS delicious - I normally drink Earl Grey but the estate tea was delicious. Evening drinks were served on the verandah (I note an earlier review about charging for cocktails, which they DO, but they do tell you on the booking that alcohol and massages are the only things not included in the overall tariff, and their approach to the evening wine with dinner errs on the very generous side). Staff were delightful, efficient and beautifully turned out. The hostess, Najima looks after everyone very well and dinners are eaten together at the old dining table (though I think they can easily cater for couples who prefer to dine a deux). We did the walk down to the river for lunch at the log cabin, which is highly recommended. Not sure about staying there as it's pretty rustic and I would be driven mad by the midges, though the setting itself is beautiful. Ten out of ten - I can't recommend it highly enough. Finally, although expensive, I think it is excellent VALUE in terms of what you get for full board, and because of the care, thought and expense that went into originally setting it up.

Room Tip: We were in the new, Waterlily Bungalow which is more private. The main bungalow would be excellent...

Thank you very much for your review. It's a relief to see issues in some previous reviews responded to, as earlier this year I was really starting to doubt certain things we were doing, and with a "labour of love" like Glenburn, this is hard to do as we work so hard to make each individual experience special, and so much goes into the "finer" details.....we are thrilled you enjoyed your visit, and thank you for taking the time to share your experience with other travelers.

Spent six blissful days and nights at Glenburn, staying in the Planters Suite. We both agreed this is one of the most magical places we have ever stayed. The quality of accommodation, the food and service were all second to none. We were made to feel VERY special and only wish we could have stayed longer. Thanks to Najma and her team and the irrepressible 'man of the world' Sanjay for a very special time. Big tip: three nights is the ABSOLUTE minimum stay you should consider at Glenburn and preferably longer. Also spend a night at the river camp. It is rustic but very special.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great but the new bungalow is VERY special.

The scenery, grounds and facilities were fabulous. The PICs are very representative of the beauty of this place. When we were there during Diwali in October the service was terrible. The tea plantation manager's wife was in charge while the regular supervisor was on holiday. They were short handed and many of the people that were supposed to be working just didn't show up. So the service and food was not to the standards you would expect at these prices. We were surprised to find out when we were leaving that there was a substancial charge for the cocktails served during the evening cocktail time before dinner. Our experience could have been much better with the appropriate level of service.

Thank you very much for the feedback and I would like to sincerely apologize for the less than perfect experience. On certain religious festivals, we do have a problem as all our staff belong to the same nepali community from Glenburn itself, but we will strive to improve this as best as we can for the future. We have also revised our cocktail policy and future guests will benefit from this.
