The is probably the most luxurious and most beautiful hotel in Rajasthan. Imagine yourself sleeping in a authentic Indian palace. We know for sure that the other hotels in Jaipur couldn't match the beauty of this hotel. We stayed here for 2 nights and we had the grandest 2 nights ever! We were treated like a King and a Queen! Upon our arrival we were greeted with garlands and a choice of any drinks, champagne, wine, juice, coffee or tea by the hotel staff . Mr. Sebom, the hotel's Guest Relations Manager took us to a personal guided tour of the whole property. We even get the chance to witness for the first time an authentic Indian wedding banquet. This hotel is NOT JUST a hotel it's a real palace! Although the property is a little bit far from the city proper but because we book our tour with a car provided, we didn't have a hard time going to the city and coming back even at night.

We even got a big surprise from the hotel staff on our 2nd night at the hotel, when they delivered to us a mouthwatering complimentary Wedding Anniversary Chocolate Cake! This is truly personal service with a heart.

The pros (service, ambiance and experience) would definitely drown the cons (distance from the city) once you get to stay in this luxurious hotel. WE ARE DEFINITELY COMING BACK TOGETHER WITH OUR FAMILIES. An experience that NOBODY SHOULD MISS. Shiv Vilas: DEFINITELY THE BEST in Jaipur if not the whole of Rajasthan!

Room Tip: all rooms are quiet and beds are very comfortable.

This hotel welcomed us with music and very friendly personel. We felt like kings and queens. After checking in we got a free guided tour of the hotel to see the beautiful amenities and rooms. The hotel was truly something special. Everything is an exact remake of an old palace with tyically indian maharadsha style furniture, art and accessories. The lobby is spacious and the interiour decoration as well as the lighting really stunning. The garden area, pool and just everthing was very well mantained, clean and nice. We loved it and recommend it to all travellers who want an extraordinary "live in a palace" experience.

The hotel is very beautifully designed. Staff are very welcoming. Rooms are well furnished.

The restaurant was a bit pricey but the meals are delicious. The servers are very helpful and attentive.

The only downfall is that the hotel is far away from the city centre which means that one cannot explore Jaipur on ones own unless you hire a taxi. There are no tuk tuks available outside the hotel! If you love shopping and sightseeing than this is not a good choice. But if you love peace and tranquility this is an excellent choice.

We were greeted with flowers and champagne at this gorgeous hotel that is about 20 km from the tourist sites of Jaipur. The check in process went smoothly. The staff was friendly and attentive. In fact, quite over-attentive and it made us very uncomfortable. Over the next hour, as we tried to settle into our room, we had multiple interruptions from staff providing various small services and expecting tips (e.g. collecting our champagne glasses). Likewise at breakfast, we could not hold a conversation because the waiters kept coming by and asking us if we needed anything - and it was a buffet!

Our room was a simple, standard hotel room and not anything like the balcony-bearing and statue-encrusted rooms posted by other Trip Advisor reviewers. The furniture was a bit beaten-up, but clean. We had one king bed and had to request a roll away (4 times before it was finally delivered - without a pillow). They charged us 2472 Rs (about $50 US) per day for the roll away. Multiple small items in the room were broken. The hotel fixed them promptly. For example, the ornate shower head is hand-held and supposed to attach to the wall so that one can actually shower using two hands. However, the attachment was broken and even when "fixed" was very tenuous.

Internet was fast. The hotel charged 850 Rs for 24 hours ($16 US) but it was only good for one device. No free internet in the lobby. In order to get internet, you had to either go down to the lobby and get a password or someone would run up to the room with a password (expecting a tip, of course).

The pools were clean and beautiful. However, they were not heated and so completely useless for swimming. I imagine they would be nice in the summer.

The power went off briefly several times. Again, this is probably not the hotel's fault, but we avoided the elevators.

The hotel's lobby and grounds are beautiful and serene. The posted pictures are accurate. The building is covered in pigeon droppings, but I don’t think the hotel can really do much about that. The areas where one walks or sits are clean. The doorman is helpful and polite. There was a musician at the entrance in the morning which added a nice atmosphere.

We only ate there for the breakfast. The food was good, but not great.

After breakfast, the waiters asked us to fill out a survey rating the service. They hovered over us as we filled it out. Likewise, we were asked to fill out a survey at the end of our stay. We marked that we would not stay there again. The clerk then grilled us about our answers and it was very uncomfortable. We were happy to leave.

In summary, we did not have any major problems at this hotel. However, next time we would choose a more practical hotel in the city.

Creation of this palatial structure took us a full Six years and we opened our gates to receive our distinguished guests from October 20, 2006 onwards. The hotels exterior is reminiscent of the palaces of Rajasthan featuring huge frescoes hand carved meticulously in ‘pink sandstone’ and white marble. The hotel is dazzling white by day & turns sunset yellow by night with our illumination providing the guests a spectacular view from all angles. Adding to the hotels grandeur is the magnificent ‘atrium’ lobby which reveals sheer grandeur. The interiors are a fusion of the Victorian, Persian & Mughal architecture. Combining the latest technology with a long-standing reputation of Indian hospitality, “Shiv Vilas” symbolizes the very essence of Indian Culture, embracing the best of the new alongside traditions of the past. ... more   less
