A beautifully preserved little theatre built on the same lines as similar ones in England, e.g. in Douglas, Isle of Man . The guide gave us a history of the theatre and names of the many famous actors who had performed there.

A small theatre hall with some beautiful paintings and pictures of plays performed. Can go if you have about half an hour to spare. Can miss if you are on a tight schedule.

One of the few still in use around the world. Excellent condition seating about 350 with regular weekly performances.

The highlight of Shimla - an excellent guide who could not have been more helpful and informative - he brought the place to life.

I visited Gaiety theater with my family. Our holiday travel desk agent had specifically told us that the old Gaiety theater is where plays still take place without the use of a mic. I was insultated my the treatment met to my family and I. The manager there was giving a short history about the theater and information about the plays that took place there. There was a foreigner family and us who were listening to him. First, the manager told us since they understood only English, we would have to bear with him; as if we were some illerates and came there for free information. Second, during the whole session (which lasted about 20mins), there was never a moment when he made eye contact with us acting as if we didn't exist. When my father tried talking to him, he said he's a senior citizen and couldn't be bothered to improve his behavior. The theater itself is really worth a visit but avoid the information session from the manager if an Indian doesn't want to be insulted in his/her own country.
