During our nine-month trip around the world, our family spent four days at La Loma. It was one of the best experiences of our entire journey, which included twenty countries and countless hotels and resorts. The lodge is in the most spectacular jungle setting. The open-air cabanas are surrounded with trees, vines and lush foliage, and each one is private and secluded with great views. All day long and through the night you can enjoy the sounds of jungle: birds chirping, monkeys rustling in the trees, the rain on the rooftop. The rooms are well appointed with comfortable bedding, mosquito nets and a lovely outdoor shower. We took advantage of many of the activities offered: a kayaking trip to the bat caves, a day snorkeling trip to the beautiful Islas Zapatillas, a hike to secluded Polo Beach and a visit to the local school in Bahia Honda. For each we were accompanied by an expert local guide who knew everything about the local flora, fauna and history, making the experiences really rich and educational. Henry and Maggie are happy to customize any type of outing you want. The food and drinks at La Loma are incredible. When you arrive at the lodge for dinner, Henry is behind the bar, ready to mix up a creative cocktail with fresh juices and handmade simple syrups. They also have a nice selection of wines and rum. All of the food is fresh and sourced locally, with many of the fruits and vegetables grown right on site. Expect freshly baked breads and homemade jams at breakfast, beautifully prepared fish, poultry and vegetables at dinner, and yummy desserts made from their own cacao and fruit. As fantastic as the food is, by far the best part of staying at La Loma is the warm hospitality of Henry and Maggie. They make you feel so welcome in their home and happily share their experiences, knowledge and adventures of living in Bocas. They have thoughtfully and lovingly created the lodge and farm from the ground up, and it shows in the details, from fresh flowers and insect coils in the cabanas, to healthy boxed lunches for daytime outings, to hot coffee and fresh muffins delivered early in the morning before the main lodge opens for breakfast. Their care and respect for the environment and the local and indigenous populations is evidenced everywhere you look. They use solar power and sustainable building materials, conserve water, and compost food scraps. And in addition to employing many people from the nearby villages, they support the local school and help indigenous women build businesses. Everything at La Loma is carefully curated to ensure a wonderful and unique stay. My only criticism is that they are only open four days a week. We would have loved to have stayed longer to enjoy more of this magical place. Thank you, Henry, Maggie and all of the La Loma staff!

Room Tip: The steps up to the cabins are steep. Ask for a lower cabin if you are not up for some exercise.

My husband and I were fortunate to visit La Loma for the day, where we toured the beautiful farm and trails through the jungle, learned how chocolate is made, and had the best meal we had our entire time in Panama... Including homemade tamales, salad made from the farm and their own chocolate, plus a few surprises. Thank you La Loma for a beautiful day, and the help with the transportarion too!

We had an amazing stay at La Loma. Everything was perfect—from the beautiful views, to the coffee brought to your bungalo, to the delicious food (coconut ceviche, chicken mole, and chocolate ingeniously incorporated into every meal). I wish we had stayed the full 4 days! Henry and Margaret, the owners, made sure every detail was taken care of for us. I can not recommend this place more! A+ and 10/10!

So pretty much the same wonderful things everyone else has said.... so I'll leave it at this - Henry and Margaret and their staff were some of the most gracious and authentic people we have every met. They truly live their mission and passion of farm to table living and that of making the world around them a more wonderful place. Our only regret is that we were not able to stay the full 4 days - whatever you do, stay 4 days.... and then go back and stay 4 more. Thank you Henry, Margaret, and staff for your wonderful hospitality and amazingly beautiful, life changing, forever in our hearts experience.

Room Tip: What are you waiting for? Just book it already.

The jungle was alive, and we learnt about much more than the (fantastic) chocolate-making process delivered by our awesome Jamaican tour guide (who made sure I would see the poison-dart red frog)! The meal served after of the tour was absolutely delicious

Big thanks! Note that we only participated in the tour, and did not stay at the hotel (it was booked).
