5 nights on a rare perch of ocean and tropical beauty untouched by development.
Grand deck with hammocks at the crashing waves overlooking the grounds leading to the ocean ten steps away from the stairs at our front door. Safe area with good people. A couple of nights it rained late awakening us to the sound on the metal roof mixed with the waves forging a white sound that excitedly lulled us back to sleep, cozy in the awning covered bed. Bathroom, shower, refrigerator and LP burner for cooking and we were set. If you are looking for high-end accommodations - this is not your place. Alternatively, if you want adventure and a forum to reconcile your Soul and get off the grid - arrive with no expectations and.....
Grocery store (another adventure) a short walk around to the leeward side and a remarkable and fun small restaurant 200 yards away ("Firefly" with memorable Spanish wines to compliment excellent meals) - we were set. No snorkeling adventures close – dive/snorkel adventures are a $3 boat ride back to Bocas. We found the diving both comforting and fun as the reef there is healthy.
I reserved this little gift on a whim based on the profile in TripAdvisor knowing my wife would be up for anything as long as we were right on the water - we were! The first night she rolled her eyes a bit suggesting she might add her input next time. By the 2nd day, the charm of this place claimed her. Our host - Jan London is a warm, insightful and beautifully eccentric soul that we spent memorable time with talking about anything that came to mind prompted by the waves.
This is a very special place.I am looking forward to another visit this October.Beauty abounds with gorgeous lush tropical rain forest trees and plants. The Tree house is built into a hill overlooking the jungle and ocean. It's like living in nature. The house itself is built with all kinds of native hard woods. It's very artsy and organic.A very comfortable place right down to the beautiful bathroom. The
beach is right there welcoming you with it's own natural easy access down to a coral reef.Bring your mask and snorkel, there are lots of tropical fish to look at.The swimming here is superb and one of my favorite things to do. There are restaurants close by or you can cook in your tree house or the Barbecue pit right in front of it.While I was grilling on the pit, I kept an eye on my fish while swinging in one of the swings. On a previous trip to Bastimentos,I walked up to a book store called Up The Hill and found a cook book I had to have,"The Coconut Cookbook"by,Jan London.A year later when I checked in to the Tree House the manager was to my surprise,Jan London! Jan had written another cook book as well. She is a Medicinal Chef and very knowledgeable about nutrition. I tasted some of her cooking and that was it.I had her cook for me and it was really so great because here I am on this Island eating delicious food that really made me feel good. Jan was very helpful with directions,Shopping and knowledge of the island.I found her utterly delightful. This was an enchanting place to stay.More of an experience. The pictures don't do it
justice.You have to feel it.
