I can’t say enough great things about the Firefly. The accommodations were so pretty and our stay was very relaxing. Every way you look it is just beautiful. The food was divine and the staff was top notch. We will definitely be back!

One tip...if at all possible, bring a back pack instead of a suitcase. You will thank me!

Very restful hotel on the water in Bastimentos. The hotel is located on a separate island from the main island of Bocas del Toro, but is only a 10 min / $3 water taxi away. The staff was very knowledgable, friendly and welcoming. They even accommodated our late night dinner requests each night. The food is delicious at the hotel and the place itself is very peaceful with only a few rooms, the sound of the waves crashing, and restful hammocks. I'd definitely recommend staying here!!

Great place to relax. We really liked the design and main deck with lounge area is a perfect spot to chill! Our water bungalow was very comfortable with nice breeze and amazing sea view. The food is delicious and breakfast is different every day. The staff is extremely friendly and will help you with everything you need.

The best thing about the place is the design, nice attention to detail in the rooms. And a very good restaurant.

A few drawbacks however. There are no boats or pier to this spot. You have to walk from the dock through several alleyways and along a stretch of quiet beach. During the day this is fine, but at night it felt quite sketchy to us.

I got tons of bites one evening from what the locals told me were sand flies. The mosquito nets don't actually cover the full bed, which seems to defeat the purpose.

One other note, the beach was so rocky in front of the beach as to be dangerous. And it needed to be cleaned up from some garbage. This may be the case for many spots in the area, but it was not the case for the previous place we stayed in Bocas.

The proprietors seem to leave the place for the middle of the day. It's not possible to even get a beer mid-day. That would be fine if it was in a city, but it's not easy to find snacks/drinks in the area from what we could see.

For the price, we were genuinely expecting more.

Hello! Thank you for the kind words regarding the design, attention to detail and the restaurant. We appreciate that you did enjoy some aspects of your stay. It seems as if some of the things you didn't like are out of our control such as getting bit by sand fleas in a tropical location. Our mosquito nets do indeed cover the bed and are quite functional but being in a tropical location, sometimes you will still experience bugs.

As for the other complaints, We do mention these things on our website and we ask guests to read through it thoroughly before booking. We show pictures demonstrating we do not have a beach but that the property sits on a rocky seafront. Most of our guests have no problem with this and there is water access which is not dangerous at all. We state that since we are on the ocean side, not the bay side, we are unable to have a dock as it would fall apart immediately. However this location on the ocean side keeps us much cooler than the bay side of the island. We are not located down any "alleyways" as you stated, we are simply a 5 minute walk out of the town down the town's main sidewalk and then a sandy path along the ocean. (Also mentioned on our website) Guests love our serene location as it is a tropical oasis outside the noise of town.

We state in our guest books that the staff often leave after breakfast to handle the shopping, pick up deliveries in town etc but they are back on site to open the restaurant for dinner. We also state that our bar/restaurant is not open for lunch service. Expecting the bar to be open during non bar hours isn't a justifiable complaint. We are a bnb with a few employees, not a resort with staff on at all times. There are three convenience stores within walking distance and several bars nearby open mid day should you want to grab a beer or bring them back to enjoy on our deck when our restaurant/bar is not open. Finding one is not a problem.

Again, thank you for staying with us and we are sorry we did not live up to your expectations.

Eco B&B with 3 rooms & 2 bungalows. A nice big deck with lounge area & a dip pool. Breakfast is included in your stay & is delicious. The rooms themselves are rustic but boutique with thoughtful touches: clean & comfortable bed.

Filtered water is provided though the stay. To echo other reviewers, the bug net over the bed could do with being replaced (holes & does not seal properly), so if you are particularly sensitive I would recommend coming prepared. I got a couple of small bites at night.

Keep in mind these are beachside cabin-style, so if that’s not your style this might not be for you. No air conditioning, but I didn’t miss it during my stay (& I tend to be hot). There is a strong fan above the bed as well as nice winds coming in through the windows, which keeps things cool at night.

Tip: 5-7 min walk from the dock over rocks & sand at some point, so I would avoid any rolling type bag & bring something you can comfortably carry for that long. Also the boat ride over from Bocas Town can be a bit bumpy depending on the conditions, so might be a thought to put electronics in something to protect them from splashes. Would also recommend a flashlight for nighttime.

Would stay again & recommend to others!
