We so wanted to give this hotel 5 stars after they rescued us from a horrible experience at Bocas Condos. The positives of Palma Royale are the cleanliness, the rooms are spacious and decor is attractive, there is in-room coffee including a grinder. They offer a safe, tv with many stations, the hot water works and breakfast is decent: fresh fruit, coffee, egg dishes and other options that cost a little extra. The staff is very nice and the owner lent us her umbrella one night during a downpour. The location is good too - near the pier and everything in town is walkable.
Now for some of the issues: first and foremost, the wifi doesn't work. It was really frustrating and the hotel won't fix it. Second, in the studio rooms, the toilet is right next to the shower head with no barrier in between, so the toilet gets soaked during showers. Very bizarre layout. Lastly, while the staff is really nice, we had a lot of interactions with a new employee who was not able to work their computer system to check us in (or several other guests). We waited for almost an hour while she tried to check us in the first day, and after 2 days we finally checked-in with the manager. This new employee also had some sort of communications mix-up about the laundry service, and our clothes were not laundered as we had requested (and the hotel allegedly offers) the day before we left.
All in all, this is a nice hotel and if you don't need or want wifi, we would still recommend it.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms in the 100's - they are on the ground floor and the toilets are next to the shower and get soaked.

After a let down of a stay at the eclipse de mar aqua lodge, we were relived to check in at the Palma. The free breakfast is good with fresh fruit, coffee and options like eggs, pancakes and omelettes.
The wi-fi in our room mostly didn't work and the phone didn't work at all. We wanted to treat ourselves to some room service, but going down to order took the romance and luxe feel away. Staff didn't make an attempt to fix the phone during the rest of our stay.
The hotel is near all the tour offices and water taxi area and waking to other parts of town is easy and safe.
The trucks depart from the port on the corner so it can be loud and busy outside(but the town is loud everywhere it seems)
No screens on windows is a bummer.
Our balcony was amazing and the kitchen was nice and had everything you would need.
Overall for the location, price and service i say you get a good value and I would stay there again.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel while on our visit to Bocas del Toro and... oh.... so glad we did..!
This hotel is if modern construction clean, very well kept as opposed as to other hotels we checked in the area. The location is perfect in order to get in the boat rides which will take you to the isles around... we went to Callo Zapatilla, StarFish Island, Dolphin Bay, Boca del Draggo (spll?) and other nearby islands and all we had to do was walk ACCROSS THE STREET from Palma Royale and get on the boats. The best hotel in town.
Carmen at the front desk is the most gracious host, and the restaurant inside the hotel is also great and very personal, cozy, Jorge and Eddie (spell?) are the most accommodating, helpful, charming and excellent cooks..!!!
Very glad we stayed there. Oh, yes, Palma Royale has AIR CONDITIONING ..!!!! As opposed as to many other hotels in Boca and even in Costa Rica.

You can never be sure when booking online, this time we feel we made the right choice. Nice comfortable rooms with good views of Isla Colón, friendly service lead by Carmen the manager.
It also has a great location, within walking distances to all bars and restaurants.
Breakfast is poor and food is so so, but having so many options around it’s not an issue. We will be back to Palma Royale and will certainly recommend.

It's a very nice place to stay with very good and big rooms. It's the best hotel in town in my opinion. The breakfast is very basic. People at the desk are friendly and speak English. The location is good, close to a supermarket in the main street.
