I was staying here with a friend for 12 nights. The location is brilliant, it is right on the beach and next to many stores and restaurants. We had a few issues with the room, one being the shower, it was quite temperamental and when it did turn on it came out in short bursts. The other issue was that the sheets and towels were not being changed, we spoke to the staff about the problems but they didn't seem to be in too much of a hurry to sort them out. After a few attempts of speaking with staff they eventually changed the sheets and gave us fresh towels but we still had to endure the dodgy shower. The frustration followed when it rained for a couple of days and the rain poured through onto the rock formation near the bed, it made the room really damp and impossible to dry clothing, this then seemed to lure in many insects that completely covered the bed. We were getting increasingly frustrated and eventually we had to speak to staff in more of a firm manner. They eventually moved us into another room which was much better and had a working shower! Hurrah! despite all of these issues our holiday was amazing but it would have been more enjoyable if they had sorted out the problems in a more efficient manner.

Room Tip: Choose the superior

The highlight of Curry Bowl, is firstly, its location. It is a beautifully restored house in the middle of the main street and the edge of a reef. A few feet on either sides are beaches, with clear waters. On one side you could snorkel, and on the other you could try your hand at surfing. The house itself is quaint, but has a busy kitchen. The street outside has plenty of eating joints and 7Eleven type shops. Getting a taxi to get anywhere is simple. The host let us in on the few things we could do around the property, like feeding turtles :). The rest of the staff is kind and helpful. A swimming pool would be a perfect addition to this property. WARNING! - The vehicles on the street outside are really fast, and you need to keep an eye for cars or buses that appear suddenly from nowhere.

Room Tip: The last room on the left has an exclusive verandah.

We stayed for a couple of nights. The only minor disappointment was that we couldn’t actually see the ocean from our sea view room but could from the chairs in front of our room. Everything else was excellent. The staff and food were great and the location was perfect for us....right in between the surf beaches and the snorkeling on the quietest part of the beach.

We spent four nights at the Curry Bowl guest house, having a great start on our vacation in Sri Lanka. The owner is fluent in English and was very helpful in assisting us planning our next weeks in the country, as well as providing us with information on what the different cities had to offer for travelers.

The room was spacious with a comfortable bed, international power outlets, wifi, and hot water in the shower. It might not be "luxurious" by international standards perhaps, but it provided everything we needed. Less than a stone throw from the beach on one side, and the vibrant main street on the other.

The garden was beautiful and calm, with an open view of the ocean and palm trees with fresh coconuts. As well as some more surprising animals in the vicinity; in the early morning we went and saw a sea turtle by the beach, and in the afternoon a water monitor walk by us outside our room.

Highly recommend trying the Pol Roti for breakfast btw :)
