“Just ok”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 December 2010

I think if I had stayed at this hotel the first night in Peru, I would have given it a higher review. But I was a little disappointed after staying at cheaper and much better places. First of all, it is behind tall gates. Not sure how all of the places in Ica are, but I didn't love this. The front desk was not as helpful as other places, though definitely friendly. Our room was large, but not as nice as I expected from the website. The pool, though small, was quite nice. Dinner was ok. My favorite thing about the place was the pisco sours. It was my first in Peru, and it was heavenly!! Overall, it was definitely a fine place to stay (safe, clean, friendly), but it was the most forgettable place we stayed.

Since I am tardy in writing this review, I can say ditto to the already great reviews listed. This is THE place to stay when going to see the Nazca lines. The owner host is a great chef, conversationalist, and goodwill ambassador. He speaks several languages, is full of information, suggests things to see (locally and elsewhere) and how to go about seeing them. He came to Peru from Austria to set-up and manage the hotel at the top of Macchu Picchu and has stayed in Peru ever since. We enjoyed walking around the area and seeing the sand dunes down the street. Andeantreks (Boston) Peter Robertson suggested the Austria when we wanted to see the Lines after our tour of Cuzco and Lima. It was the perfect place for us. Be sure to visit the local museum, The mummies are interesting, but the weavings are not to be missed and the rest of the place worth the time. On our bus ride down from Lima, we saw the earthquake damage in Pisca. Wow! There is some in Ica as well.

p.s. we did not need air conditioning when we visited Ica the first days of January.

Its a great example of a simple hotel.
clean rooms, swimming pool, great location and an English speaking host who is really enthusiastic about the area and making sure that we got the most out of it.
The rooms were really well presented, big bed, very clean and organised, fan - no air con in our room, nice big bathroom, hot shower.
but it was the host who made it great, he organised day trips for us and really made us feel welcome - as well as teaching us Spanish!
You can walk to Las Dunas if you want to eat somewhere different - or swim in their giant pool!
I heartily recommend this place.

After 16 years we stood at this hotel at the second time. The owner is an educated Austrian hotel and cooking expert. The hotel is well managed, clean, has swimming pool and EXCELLENT meals. The owners are helping a lot and manage to get good travel arrangements to Paracas and Nasca.
Best price quality relation.
