Had a very difficult time choosing a hotel in AG because of all the very mixed reviews on everything. La Cabana was the last one I booked out of the 8 hotels we stayed in Peru and it was definitely the right choice. Our room was very spacious, everything was clean, no hot water or heat issues. It was kind of noisy (from outside) when we went to bed (probably around 9:30/10) but we fell asleep quickly (can't say whether the revelers stopped early or we were just exhausted). We had two issues (not a deal breaker and would still definitely recommend this place): we were at breakfast at 5:00am and found it to be horrible, the worst we had during our entire two weeks in Peru. We found everything stale and inedible which was annoying since we would have liked a good breakfast before our day at MP to which we were only taking snacks for the whole day. The other thing is, be prepared to pay cash for the hotel. When we arrived it was raining and they claimed they were having problems getting through to Visa but talking to others the next day, they had also paid cash because of lousy exchange rate. It was only one night, so not a problem for us, but just a heads up. It was the most expensive hotel we stayed at and I would say the least value for the money, but I would stay there again because considering this is Aguas Calientes where everything is overpriced and not very good, this ends up being a good choice.

Pros:

1. Rooms are clean and well appointed. Bed was very comfortable, and bath towels soft and fluffy.
2. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful.
3. Breakfast included offers a good variety of foods and drinks.
4. Plenty of hot water for showers, and unlike most places in Peru, water temperature was constant and stable.
5. Hotel offers free wifi in rooms and in lobby area.

Cons:

1. Walls are very thin. You can hear people showering, blow drying their hair, etc. down the hall. The clamor of dogs barking, doors opening and closing, people talking, etc. echo through the halls - this is particularly bothersome since many travelers awake at 4 am to be the first ones on the buses that leave at 5:30 am for Machu Picchu.
2. The hotel is located at the top of the hill, which means a steep climb after descending to the main square for shopping or dining. Normally this would not be a problem for us, but after hiking Salkantey, our limbs were worn and tired.

Definitely overpriced for what it is, but then again, what isn't in Aguas Calientes... Our room was nice, and problems with hot water and television were promptly resolved within minutes after a quick call to the front desk. The beds were comfy, and breakfast was available at 5am before taking the bus to machu picchu. On the negative side, the rooms are rather noisy.
The location of the hotel is ok, everything is close in aguas calientes.

Options in Aguas Calientes are limited, so given that, I wouldn't mind staying at this place again if I went back to MP.

PROS
- OK price for the area
- HOT water and powerful water pressure in the shower
- Free bag storage

CONS
- Seems to be one of the furthest out hotels. Not too far, but it is a 5-10 minute uphill stroll from the train/bus area.
- Rooms are small... mostly just the bed in there. But since this is mostly a place to sleep, it wasn't a big deal.
- Noise tends to travel through the walls and windows but it didn't affect our sleep too much b/c we woke up early anyway

NEUTRAL
- The room was fairly clean. Shower was clean. In the bedroom there were just a couple of mosquitoes and flies. It also had a bit of a musty mildew smell but nothing too horrible.
- The rooms didn't feel as fancy as the photos on the website - so don't off those.

All in all, it did the job for what we needed.
