“It's interesting”

Kg Pukat Fisherman Village
Ranked #14 of 21 things to do in Sandakan

There's not much to do in Sandakan, as we saw it, and so we decided to visit this place.
We took a taxi (we could have walked from the center, it's not that far, but it was hot) and the driver dropped us off there (and waited to return us for about 11/2 h- 40 MYR for the whole thing).
Ok, it's nothing breathtaking, it's simply a village and you do feel strange when you walk around and pry into people's yards and gardens ... Wouldn't want people doing that to us.
The village per se is clean, and there are many quaint houses with well-tended verandas. What is dirty though is the sea, with lots of bottles of trash floating around (ranging from bottles to a couch). That being said, however, you see heaps of bottles floating around in Sandakan (and Kota Kinabalu) too.

Amazing to see the number of dwellings sprouting from the sea. High density living. Some really tidy and immaculate some very sad.

This was part of the City Tour of a day trip that we booked with Tropical Gateway Tours through our hotel: Tour Code: TGW002
Day Trip – Sepilok Orang Utan/Labuk Bay/ City Tour. It is a village on stilts, interesting to a point and sometimes colourful - end of! Great as a part of this multiple venue daytrip, but otherwise don't bother.

Felt a bit "off" peering into other people's homes. I wouldn't like it myself. Anyway, as far as I could see it was quite clean, the water included, although we did pass disgusting-looking heaps of rubbish on the way to this section. Garbage collection seems to be non-existent in this area. Some of the homes were rather grand, and I can't even begin to imagine how they were built. Wouldn't say it's a must-see destination, and you can see from the plane that there are many water villages here in Sandakan as well as KK. Can't imagine it's doing the environment much good.

Called here during a day's visit to Sandakan - to visit the Orangutans in Sepilok.
An interesting insight of the traditional way of life of the local people.
The houses are mainly wooden and built on stilts in the sea.
Unfortunately, a lot of rubbish thrown into the sea.
Worth a visit.
