Good things:-

Amazing staff - the lady on reception was so helpful. Arranged a brilliant boat trip, sorted ferry tickets and help to take bags to the pier. Gave us a map and pointed out good beach etc.

Clean room - rooms cleaned twice during our 4 day stay with fresh towels

Location - 10 min walk from party area. Not much noise at night. Right opposite nice restaurant for breakfast and 2 mins from shop.

Cheap - for Koh Phi Phi standards anyway.

Bad things:-

Mosquito central - I think this area is particularly bad for mozzies due to stagnant water. All staff working this area have zappers. We sprayed deet under the door and all over us every day but still got eaten alive. Woke up to a massive spider in the bathroom one morning, which was removed by the staff quickly. Not the hostels fault about the creatures but location plays a part here.

Water quality - the water was a cloudy brown colour and the bathroom smelled of raw sewage. When I questioned this I was told that the water comes from a very old well system. For fear that it was actually sewage leaking into the water system, I showered elsewhere all week which was a pain. My friend didn't, and got sick. In other places on the island that we went to, the water was clear, so not sure if the septic tank needed changing or something because it's not an island problem (had a lovely clean shower at a pool I had paid to use the facilities for down in Tonsai) no restaurants I visited had brown running water either. Definitely isolated to
Cocos, or that part of the island at least.

On balance probably wouldn't stay again unless they sorted the water issue (deal breaker). Otherwise, really really good value for money.

Lucy V,

Thank you for such a detailed review mentioning our friendly and helpful staff and saying it was good value for money. Also for mentioning the cleaning routine and location near the shops, a restaurant and far from the bar noise.

Like you said, our part of the island , next to the mountains will be influenced by the mosquitoes from the jungle.

As to the water, this is the first I have heard of it and I will get onto it straight away.

Thank you once again for your detailed review.

Regards,
Phil

Stayed here for one night after 4 nights elsewhere in phi phi and this was just not up to our expectations. For the price you pay for this guest room you get no tv no hot water and the rooms and very dull looking dirty stained sheets. That we didn't see till we left and the wifi was non-existent!

From the other reviews I know now then with the basic fan rooms you get no hot water but not once was this mentioned when we booked and for a lot less money our other 4 nights we stayed we got hot water air con and brilliant wifi!

Overall I would not stay here again purely because from my experience you can get a lot better places for less money!

Zenon R,

Thank you for your detailed review.
The cold water shower is normal for the Old Traditional Thai guesthouse rooms and this is clearly defined in all our website and with all other selling website like booking.com. They also mention that there is no TV in the fan room. If you walked off the street and took the room then you had plenty of opportunity to see there was no TV and that the shower was cold.

As to pricing of rooms in peak season when the island is full, Koh Phi Phi prices are considered high but do reflect the cost of doing business on a remote island.

All room have wi fi and as with all guesthouses on Koh Phi Phi they come from one source and one supplier. If a couple of guests start downloading movies it will slow the connection down for everyone . This is why we ask people to use the wifi considerately.

Kind regards,

Phil

Tom M,

Thank you for your kind review. It's great to read when a guest gets Coco's. Out air con rooms are really cool in the hot season. It was a smart move to upgrade.
Happy travels,

Kind regards, Phil

We stayed in basic room with fan. Room was old and needed complete renovation - ugly walls, broken sink. Water in bathroom was dirty and only cold. You can hear all the noises from other rooms - speaking, bathroom, even a fan. We both get stomachache and what we heard through the walls we weren't the only ones. We cannot be sure if it was because of dirty water, but it happened to us first time after two weeks in Thailand. To say something nice, they picked us up from the pier and took out baggage. They also get our baggage back to the pier, but in time they had to pick up somebody else so we had to wait two hours for our boat. Next time we will choose different accommodation.

Michal M,

Thank you for you room.

Our fan rooms are from the oldest part of our 1 star traditional guesthouse. They are as seen in the photos in our website and on the websites of our agents.

Im sorry you got unwell during your stay and hope this didn't colour your view of the guesthouse.

Kind regards,

Phil

We stayed in a basic room (double bed with fan), but even this was overpriced for what it was! The linen was stained and the pillows were dirty. The toilet ran on a septic tank which is common for Thailand, but the toilet would flush with what looked like dirty water and the bathroom had a constant smell of sewage. We're by no means fussy travellers and stay in basic accommodation, but for what we paid, this was horrendously overpriced. We know Phi Phi is a party island, but we also became very ill whilst staying within the accommodation (not due to alcohol) and could hear a number of other guests being ill during our stay. Not sure whether this was due to the dirty water in the bathroom? But was highly unpleasant!

The hotel offers a free baggage drop to the pier as it is quite a way to walk with your heavy things! We let the hotel know the day before we were due to depart, and also informed them of the time. When it came round to us checking out, they couldn't get hold of their porter, causing us to have to run (whilst still ill!) with all our bags to catch our ferry in time. So don't rely on this service!

Overall, a really poor experience. Overpriced and underwhelmed with the hotel.
