We stayed at Rose Gardens for 3 nights in mid-January and were talking about it for the rest of our trip in Kerala. The rooms are very large and comfortable and the food is delicious but the main reason our stay was so memorable was because of the wonderful hospitality and friendliness of the family. They really made us feel at home. Don't be put off by the fact that it's 10 km out of Munnar - the surrounding countryside is far nicer than the town itself, and public buses into town stop right outside the front door. Tomy and Rajee's eldest son was home from university for holidays and looked after us very attentively, taking us to see some interesting places in the area that we wouldn't otherwise have known about. All sons were very charming and helpful with Deepu providing fantastic evening entertainment! Thank you all for a really lovely stay. Pippa and Gareth

Just came back from a trip to India and staying at Rose Gardens was the highlight of the trip. Tommy and his family make you feel at home all the time. It's just an experience you can't miss in Munnar, to get a real feel of a Keralan stay.
The place is spotless and the room does not feel like it's part of the house, it's just your own small apartment. The shower was the best we had in 2 weeks! Both the room and the bathroom are huge.
It's the perfect combination of an clean room that you would get in a nice hotel with the addition of a home stay.
The food they serve is amazing and it's plenty! Everything is tasty and they even make special treats for their guests, when they ask. We said we wanted to have idlis and they made them for breakfast the following morning! Everything is home made and the honey and pineapple jam are the highlights of every breakfast.
Tommy goes the extra mile to help you with everything you need and has great ideas for walking the tea plantations.
His wife and kids are also very caring and friendly and always attentive to your needs.
We couldn't have asked for more at their house and I wish them nothing but the best.
If you are lucky enough to get a room to stay with them, enjoy it!

thanks to Tomy and family for a great stay in Munnar for our family of 5. Not only fantastic food and surroundings, but also wonderful company. A set of cards for the boys to play with is on the way. Best recommandations from Søren, Louis, Lasse, Theis and Karin, Copenhagen

Rose Gardens homestay is situated about 10km out of scruffy little Munnar and is a generally nice place to spend a day or two. The rooms are large and clean and the bathrooms are too. Rajee's cooking (breakfast, dinner) is generally very good and Tomy is an attentive host. My experience was, however, marred by a couple of things. First, there was never any hot water, which is unacceptable for a place that charges INR 3500 a night. Citing that the homestay is "eco-friendly" simply does not cut it. Second, there was constant noise from the workers on site who were building a cabinet or some such thing. 8 hours of hammering was just unbearable. This too is unacceptable for a place that charges such an amount. Finally, I was really put off my the backhand way in which we were charged for the beer that was offered to us during dinner. Meals are included in the cost, but there was no mention that the drinks we were offered during dinner were not included. This is, to be sure, a fairly minor complaint, but to learn of these extra unmentioned charges while settling the bill was, in my opinion, sneaky.

I ended up at Rose Gardens after a disastrous houseboat experience followed by a pretty awful bus ride from Allepey to Munnar. I was feeling run down and desperate for a good night's rest and recovery. The homestay with Tomy and Raji was perfect. The food Raji cooked was fresh and delicious (I still think about her coconut pancakes, and the fresh sliced passionfruit served with each meal), the surrounding grounds with Tomy's plants and flowers and bee hives were really tranquil, and the other folks staying there were cool and friendly (we ate meals together). Tomy took us on a walking tour through the tea plantations and to a freshwater lake that was awesome. Back at the house, the rooms were large and clean, and the beds had proper mattresses. After my stay at the Rose Gardens I had my color, energy and sanity back and was ready for the next set of adventures. The family is very warm and friendly and make you feel at home. I highly recommend.
