We originally paid for a lagoon view bungalow, but the hotel upgraded us to a beach view bungalow for free. I highly recommend the beach view over the lagoon view. We would wake up in the morning and have a nice view of the beach and Tahiti (at a distance) from bed (If we chose the lagoon view, the view would be of the overwater bungalows, which I don't think would be as cool). As soon as we open the door from our bungalow, we are a few steps to the beach.

The restaurant had good healthy delicious food. Unfortunately when we got there, only 1 of the 2 restaurants were open. I think that this is true for the entire month of January due to renovations. It would have been nice if we were informed before we got there. Nonetheless, the 1 restaurant that was open was really really good and had quite a bit of food selection.

We we're greeted warmly upon arrival with fresh juice and a flower lei. Upon our departure, we were given a shell lei. The entire staff were all really nice and called us by our last names.

Bring tons of bug sprays. There are a lot of mosquitos in the island.

Out of the 3 Sofitel resorts we stayed in French Polynesia (Moorea, Bora Bora, Tahiti), the one in Moorea is definitely the best. We stayed in a garden bungalow for 3 nights and absolutely loving it. The inside of the bungalow is very clean, nicely maintained with simple but beautiful decor. The hotel ground is also very well maintained and beautiful. Staff is very friendly. We were able to relax, enjoy, along with snorkeling right by the beach. (Not as many fishes as Bora Bora but there were patches of coral that had a lot. I recommend taking some bread from breakfast when you snorkel. :) Breakfast was also great. The restaurant was quite pricey though. Overall, a wonderful experience. Highly recommended.

After dreaming of a beautiful tropical paradise holiday my partner and I were extremely disappointed not only due to poor weather with 5 of 8 days we stayed not just rained but poured flooding the hotel. We totally understand that it was the wet season and the hotel can't do anything about the weather but having said that there were on option to do anything other then stay in your bungalow. The few days of sun we had at the beach which is beautiful but the no noes( which are like fleas and eat you alive when at the beach) and the mosquitoes are total out of control you can't walk out of your room with out rid.
The food was extremely disappointing breakfast everyday was exactly the same absolutely no variety! Lunch very basic menu such as cheese burgers and club sandwiches.Dinner was
defiantly the worse buffet was uneatable some night that left you with no choice but la a carte
very limited menu choice hardly any fresh fish or seafood if any, which we were extremely
disappointed about.
The staff found it very difficult to understand and speak English, going to little effort help when there was a communication barrier most of the time just walking away.
The beds and pillows were very comfortable but many times after breakfast we would come back and our rooms and beds were not made.
Overall would not recommend to anybody but if you are planning on going would not stay more then 3 nights and do not going in there wet season.

Room Tip: Stayed in the garden bungalow first few nights then the over water bungalow for the last few which worked out well.

This a magnificent tropical garden where lucky residents go from their bungalow to restaurants, to the bar, to the beaches, the pool, the spa, and so many other delightful and relaxing activities. Here again, like at the Intercontinental of Tahiti, the chief designer is nature. Everything is available for your desires and comfort. The rooms, set in spacious bungalows, are dramatically tasteful with local tropical materials, like bamboos, and a modern peaceful and very comfortable decor. Commodities include perfect bathrooms, spacious with everything required for privacy and pampering times. The food is excellent whether served in the main restaurant, at the bar by the pool or in the gourmet restaurant called "K". If you want to offer an amazing brunch experience at your own terrace, a couple of friendly staff will take a canoe and row this feast to your overwater bungalow! The beaches in this resort are the best of Moorea, with perfect soft sand and coconut tree bending along the beach here and there, a dream! To enjoy with some of their best cocktails.

Room Tip: All rooms are great with a plus for the overwater bungalows, or even the deluxe over water bungalows where I was.

For context, we went for our honeymoon. We are in our mid thirties. We have stayed at many nice beaches in the US and worldwide (e.g., Miami, Thailand, Nice, Santa Monica, Taiwan, Cancun, Puerta Vallarta, Hawaii, etc.) We tend to stay at clean and modest, but not high end, accommodations.

Our summary of Moorea Sofitel:

- Though we had a garden bungalow, we had a nice, if somewhat obstructed, view of the water. This was our first trip to Moorea (and Tahiti and Bora Bora) and we were initially swept up in the fervor and purported necessity of a water bungalow. When we booked the trip, it was a combination of room availability and cost that had us reluctantly accept our second choice of a garden bungalow. As it turns out, we did not regret taking the garden bungalow at all. And we know what we missed in that, after Moorea, we flew directly to Bora Bora to stay in a Sofitel water bungalow -- yawn. If you are going to be out on the sand or in the water all day -- as you likely will -- what is the big deal about also sleeping over the water? We liked the contrast of going back to land to get our sleep.

- The room was large and clean. Much cleaner and apparently newer than the Bora Bora Sofitel.

- We really liked the "garden-setting" shower in our garden bungalow.

- Breakfast buffet was great. The food was good quality. During the three days we stayed here, the food selection did not seem to vary. It didn't bother us at all but we mention it nonetheless.

- I was very happy to run the length of the beach for exercise. If you like to run, you can run up and down as many times as you like. The sand has small rocks but it's all very nice. You cannot run on the beach at Bora Bora Sofitel because the beach was so tiny.

- In all, I didn't come to realize the many fine attributes of this hotel until we stayed (in a water bungalow) at the inferior Bora Bora Sofitel.

- I have no experience with hotel service because we stayed three nights and did not invite the staff to come in to clean.

- As to price, I believe it seemed reasonable in view of the other options on the island. But still a lot more than other trips to beaches in other countries.

- We brought snacks from home and pretty much ate two meals a day. We quickly learned that the meals away from the hotel are much more fun, varied, and economical. We highly recommend that you dine outside the hotel. You can ask the hotel reception to call the restaurant for a free ride to and from the restaurant.
