Good mix of, and fresh daily vegetables, fish, meat, raviolis and especially, don't miss their Argentinian Empanadas. Atmosphere and hostess giving a very personalized service.
On Thursday dinners, they have a guitarist playing the music of your choice at no extra cost, and guaranteed he will know one of your favorite songs, regardless of nationality.

Family owned in a gated mall like parking area called Aventura Plaza in Urdesas. On the left side as your taxi enters. Very warm and friendly proprietress -- no English fluency but not necessary. Menu is in Italian -- pastas are EXCELLENT, Also very good wine choice. Restaurant is small but very warm and inviting.
suggest you ask your taxi driver to return for you in 1.5 or 2 hrs after he drops you off so you do not go through the problem of trying to hail one on the street.
We felt this was a true respite and fine evening while in Guayquil.

Overall, we enjoyed our dinner and La Sociedad and the service was very good. The hostess (who I would guess is the owner's wife) was very hospitable and friendly.

Our starters - the ravioli and salad were delicious, and tasted like they were made with fresh ingredients and love.

We decided to splurge and have the risotto for 2 with porcini mushrooms and truffles (for $68.00!!). It seemed like a lot for risotto, but she explained that they flew the truffles in from Italy, so we were really expecting to be blown away with truffly flavour. Although the risotto was cooked perfectly and tasted yummy, it was quite devoid of truffle flavour. I could see a couple little pieces of truffle, but for $68, I was expecting WOW! When I asked to see the truffle, I learned that it was frozen. Truffles are a very precious little fungus and need to be used as quickly as possible. If frozen they need to be stored in olive oil, in air tight containers, etc... otherwise they lose their flavour and aroma - which was unfortunately the case for La Sociedad.

Overall the meal was delicious, but the truffle experience was disappointing. You should definitely visit this little restaurant if you're in Guayaquil, but pass on the truffles, unless you smell them in advance and can confirm that they are super fresh or have been stored properly.

BTW - they are not open on Sundays

Enjoy!

One of my favorite restaurants in Guayaquil is la Sociedad in Ventura Plaza (next to the big Iguana). Food is well prepared by the Italian chef-owner. He and his wife Janette run the place. The meats are well prepared, the fish is always fresh and some pastas are home made. Try the cocoa pasta with walnut sauce.
