Family of four, with children aged 5 and 8. Spent a week here in August. Pleasantly surprised by the hotel - a superb breakfast buffet, beautiful hotel and island, great pool area (salt water), very suitable for children. Lots of sun beds. The family suites were spaceous and great for the four of us, with minibar, balcony and air condition. Not very luxuriously decorated, but keep in mind that this is a much cheaper hotel than most other hotels in this area. And the breakfast and the pool area makes up for it in tenfolds!

We didn't spend any time at the beach, as we felt it was quite crowded due to many visitors from the mainland.

The staff were helpful and friendly, and we felt very welcomed. Lots of organized activities throughout the day (aqua zumba, mini club, beach volley etc etc).

The boat from the island to the old town of Rovinj goes every hour (full hour from the island, and half past from the mainland.) We saw this as the only stressing part of our holiday: keeping the time to reach the boat! We got used to it, though.

The city of Rovinj was nice, both for children and adults. Lots of small shops, art galleries and restaurants. Seemed like most of the tourist were german. We only heard a few other Scandinavian families there (we're from Norway).

All in all we would highly recommend Island hotel Katarina if you are going to Rovinj. Great value for money (it does NOT feel like a three star hotel!)

Having read a few negative comments about this 3 star hotel we were very pleasantly surprised at how good it was. We booked for the location, but our room no. 431 (fantastic view of Rovinj) was very clean, had brilliant air conditioning and had an excellent good quality shower room. The food was fantastic and the staff could not do enough for you and always had a smile on their faces. The hotel has lots of nice architectural features and isn't just a concrete block and the grounds, especially the fountain area were stunning and the pool area brilliant. Even the staff on the boat back and too to Rovinj were brilliant. Thank you for making our holiday special and hopefully we will be back soon.

Room Tip: High floor rooms probably have the best views

This hotel is on an island in Rovinj. Such a wonderful place with pools, beach swimming, restaurant... The boat ride to the mainland is fast and fun and the town of Rovinj is awesome. The room was spacious and the views are fantastic!

We stayed at Island Hotel Katarina as part of a tour and I would definitely stay there again if we were traveling again on our own. The hotel is located on an island in Rovinj and small ferry boats shuttle you between the mainland and the island. It is a quick ride to the mainland, but nice to stay away from all the touristy stuff. Approximately two hours from Venice, Italy, the hotel has an Italian Riviera feel to it with beautiful grounds, spacious rooms big enough for families, a warm salt water pool, access to a beach on the Adriatic, delicious food and activities for the guests of all ages. The rooms are designed for families, so we had plenty of space to put all our luggage. The master bedroom had air conditioning, comfortable beds, and we had a beautiful balcony overlooking the grounds. The bathroom was clean and modern.

The hotel offers the BEST breakfasts, with so much food you could eat breakfast and not eat the rest of the day. We also had dinner there one night, which again offered an amazing and plentiful selection of food.

There were plenty of lounges at the pool, which was warm and nice to swim in, and we were entertained in the evening by a fabulous group of singers while enjoying complimentary wine and champagne.

We stayed at Katarina 3 years ago and were exited to come back. This time we thought the atmosphere was even better. The service had improved, everything was cleaner and the gardens looked even better looked after and held. This hotel is perfect if you want some peace and quit away from the touristy crowd. You can have all your meals at Katarina or you can visit Rovinj for lunch or dinner and sightseeing. The boat, free of charge for hotel guests, leaves every hour. We really recommend this hotel to families with children under the age of 15 and to couples searching for somewhere to relax for swimming, reading and sunbathing.
