We had a pleasant stay at this hotel. Staff was very friendly, room was clean. Only the bed for the kids was really small. We had half board and enjoyed the fact that we could change between dinner and lunch. The buffet was above average compared with similar hotels.

We stayed for 4 nights in the Elaphusa recently to finish off a two week tour of Croatia.

We stayed in block D and found the rooms large, modern, well equipped, good and quiet A/C. Nice large balcony overlooking pool area.

Good points:

1. Hotel is very clean and overall well maintained.

2. All staff we interacted with were very amenable.

3. Pool area is lovely. A recent review suggested a lack of sun loungers. Our experience did not back this up and we were at the hotel during peak time. There is a large french contingent of holidaymakers, who unlike brits et al seem to have a more relaxed attitude to getting out in the sun, so as long as you are out poolside by 10:00 - 10:30, you should be absolutely fine!

4. Location is great! The hotel is literally a stones throw from sea, so if you tire from the pool, there are bars, cafes and watersport centres very close by. You will have to pay around 50 Kuna to hire sun bed for the day though. In the evening it is a gentle 10 minute stroll on a wide tree lined path to Bol, where plenty of bars and restaurants are available.

5. On site restaurant is large, so no issues finding a table for buffet service. In general food was fine, plentiful and varied.

Not so good

1. We were on half board and still scratching my head why the hotel has decided to remove access to drinks, even WATER for anyone other than all inclusive customers during evening meals?!

2. Bearing in mind the above, you will find that quite a few of the hot food options are incredibly over seasoned with salt, this is not exclusive to the hotel, as we found that it was a culinary trend on our visit to several restaurants in Croatia!

3. The hotel pool is VERY COLD. Even after record high temperatures in Croatia, the saltwater pool took some courage to immerse yourself fully into!

4. I agree with other reviews that in general, bearing in mind pricing for drinks in supermarkets, the hotel pricing (and to be fair, many of the local bars and restaurants) is somewhat high.

5. Keep your receipt copies! More an observation really as the room charging system for drinks etc seems very flaky in that you don't need to show any proof of which room you are in, so with a squiggle, you can charge your drinks to any room, which we found someone had done to us! Hotel must risk losing a small fortune to less than honest customers!

6. 100 Kuna deposit per beach towel, which gets expensive if there are 5 of you! Bit of an inconvenience to have back if you are flying home straight after.........unless you plan to spend in duty free!!

Dear Keilor Q,

Thank you for your nice review and for your good rating on TripAdvisor. We are glad you liked our hotel in general and the beautiful location. In mostly every hotel in Europe you have to pay for water, except AI guest, there is no exception in Croatia. Thank you also for pointing out things you didn't like, it will help us to improve some things in the future.

Blueun Elaphusa is quite a big hotel with a wide range of facilities - the service was very good and everything was very organised, like being on a cruise ship or a mega hotel in Dubai or Vegas, although I think it did lack a bit of character. Here is a breakdown of the rooms which I think is important to know:

BLOCK A - This is at the entrance to the hotel and overlooks the drop off area, so it can get noisy at times, with taxis and tour buses coming & going. I haven't been inside the rooms.

Block B - This is the block we stayed in initially. It is older style, from the 1970's. I didn't mind that it was dated, but the corridors and steps had no A/C so as soon as you entered the block it was suddenly very hot. The room was dated inside, but had a modernised bathroom and terrace with a view out towards the sea (although obscured by the trees). We stayed in a suite so it was spacious, however we had serious issues with the A/C in there. We turned both A/C's up to MAX, closed all windows and doors, however the room never cooled down - we were naked yet still sweating at night even though not under any bedding. It was a serious issue for us, and despite the hotel coming to "fix it", nothing ever changed. I think the A/C is just too old and can't cool the room down at all. DO NOT STAY IN Block B. After several complaints we were fortunately moved to another room. I was on the verge of leaving the hotel and staying elsewhere as couldn't sleep in the heat, and expected more from a 275euro/night room.

Block C - This block is newer than B but older than D, and pretty basic. At least the A/C worked.

Block D - If I ever returned to the hotel, this is the only block I would want to stay in. It is more modern, the A/C worked perfectly, and had a terrace. There is a lift which takes you directly to the breakfast buffet level and spa/pool area which is convenient too.

WIFI - Internet was surprisingly good - excellent speed and connectivity available throughout the resort.

FOOD - Every room should have breakfast included, the breakfast selection was good and quality good too. We inadvertently booked half board which meant we had evening meals included, although we changed 1 of the meals to lunch as we wanted to eat out too. The evening meal also had plenty of options and was surprisingly good quality for a buffet meal. Drinks such as bottled water, specialty coffee like espresso, cappuccino etc and alcohol like wines can be purchased for additional money (cash or room charge). If you buy a bottle of wine and don't finish it, they can label it and keep it for you to consume the following night, which I thought was good.

LOCATION - convenient, about 8 minutes walk to Zlatni Rat beach, and 15 minutes walk to Bol town/port area. The walk is shaded and along the waterfront so it is a very easy and pleasant stroll, not a chore.

SPA - good quality wellness centre. You need to pass through here to access the indoor swimming pool and the spa pool. There is also a water cooler here, so if you run out of bottled water you can obtain more here.

SWIMMING POOL - even in the peak of summer, the swimming pool water was too chilly for us

GYM/FITNESS CENTER - qood quality gym with a range of cardio equipment and weights. Could do with a pull up bar however.

CAR PARKING - Is situated off-site, but available free of charge, about 3 minutes walk away. You need to obtain an access card from reception to get through the gates. If you have a scooter you can park it on the driveway leading down to the hotel, so better access.

Overall it is a very well managed and organised operation. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are mostly dated however and need serious modernising. The lobby looks good and has chilly A/C, however as soon as you leave the lobby area the A/C can stop, carpet etc is dated, and the rooms can be old and insufficient A/C for the room. I would stay here again, but only if I was assured a room in D Block. I believe they refer to Blocks A, B & C as "Standard" and Block D as "Superior.

Room Tip: Only stay in "D" Block!!

We are currently half way through a 10 day stay and have so far had a great time. This hotel is by no means perfect (where is that is realistically affordable these days) and list good and bad below:
First the good:
Lovely big pool with plenty of sun loungers/shade and a good bar.
Nice indoor spar pool which is free
Great location equally ( 10 mins) between Bol harbour and the golden horn beach with picturesque tree lined avenue to connect them.
Avenue is thronged with trendy bars, gift shops and beach side restaurants.
We had a premium room on 3rd floor in D block which had sea/pool view and was well serviced and comfortable.
Staff polite and friendly (in a Croatian way)
Good buffet breakfast and Dinner ( as good as a buffet can be) and nice outdoor terrace.

The Bad:
Really expensive drinks in hotel and in the town, be prepared to be rinsed dry of cash
No tap water at dinner, you have to pay 3 euros for bottles ( this is typical in Croatian restaurants) this in my view is wrong in such a hot country when the water quality is good.
Hotel buffet restaurant (indoors) is soulless and cafeteria like in atmosphere, outside terrace is great.

Apart from these minor issues I would recommend for a family summer Holiday in Bol. Good solid 4 out off 5

One tip, we booked half board which was only option other than B&B, however there is a French tour operator that offers all inclusive which may be a better option.

We are a family of 4 and stayed in Aug 2017 for 10 nights. We had a suite with a sea view which was very clean and spacious. Food was good quality and there was a large choice. Swimming pool was lovely but difficult to get loungers after 9.30/10am. Good location for beach outside the hotel, Zlatni Rat (5mins) or Bol centre (15 mins). Staff were polite and helpful and really hard working. Special mention for the childrens mini club team who were really friendly and enthusiastic. Bowling alley was good fun.
