Sometimes they host music shows, attend even if genre isn't your style. If they have iron casting workshop Do It! Joe is a good guy. Lots of opportunity for schools to cast metal. It's a great experience.

We went to Sloss as a day out when we visited Alabama for my brothers 40th birthday and found it to a very interesting place. The sheer scale of some of the machines is mind boggling and to think people worked in it is amazing, I recommend it for a visit and make sure you take a camera as it's mechanical engineering beauty is staggering.

Sloss is one of the coolest historic places in Birmingham and you have to visit if you are in town. I really love exploring the furnaces and have taken the coolest pictures here.

We came to Birmingham to visit the civil rights sites - they are very good but this site is even better! See what contributes to the growth of the city over 100 years ago and experience industrial archaeology up close. Great for photographers, (wannabe) engineers and anyone with an interest in urban history. Even better - there is no entrance fee so even if you only have half an hour free, I'd recommend a visit.

When I lived in Alabama this place was on my bucket list. It's supposedly one of the most haunted sites in Birmingham and as I've previously said in other reviews I run my own paranormal investigation team so of course it's always been of interest to me.

The place is a lot bigger then you would expect and the famous water tower is even in height from the overpass that over looks it.

It's a self guided tour and the price of admission is pretty cheap so that's always a good thing. There is plenty of places to explore within the confines of the massive building, some places are off limits due to age and safety reasons which is understandable.

The history is rich and be sure to ask any of the staff that can be found in the building they are all knowledgeable in the history and you'll find it's quite interesting.

If you're in Birmingham and have a few hours to kill definatly stop by and see this awesome location and take the self guided tour. You will be sorry if you miss out on it.
