Really nice to visit this place. Full of statues carved onto the wall in the mountains. This place is huge & highly recommended to visit.

Very impressive rock carvings. Thousands of Buddhas.... Could relate some of the carving styles to those seen in India. Authorities have made the place congestion free by stopping private vehicles 2 kms before the site and have arranged battery operated carts to take visitors to the site. The 400 year old arch bridge is also impressive.

A must see place while in Central China, its absolutely spectacular, the carvings, the statues, the caves, the scenery around you and the river along the side of the mountain is incredible. As a traveller's tip please use the electric bus and pay to be taken from the main entrance down to the grottoes entrance as the walk is very long and anyway on the way back you are going to end up doing it anyway.

The Longmen mountain with it's impressive grottoes is the very interesting and unusual place of the history of buddhist religion in China. Many artificial grottoes were digged in the mountain by order of Chinese Imperor family members and other honorable people. The huge stone statures of Buddhas exhibit the beauty of ancient chinese art and skill of artists. There are no gold or coloured painting usual to chinese buddhist holy places. Just the stone. But they're really beautiful. The best view over the grottoes opens from the other side of th Yihe river. Grottoes are at some distance from car and bus parking therefore it's worth taking an electrical trolley to get to the entrance. It takes a couple of hours to visit the grottoes. We felt hungry and unfortunately there was no restaurant or cafe inside, only the booths with hot dogs of doubtful quality. So I recommend to visit the grottoes with some snack in your bag.
