“Awesome location, some good dishes, some poor ones. Home-brewed beer is tasty.”

Having had well over 10 dinners at Le Votre, I recommend some of the Chinese dishes!
Such as: Mango duck, fried tea leaves with beef or shrimps. If you crave for some Western/French food, most dishes will be ok, just don't expect French "haute cuisine".
While the outdoor seating is usually nicer during summer, have a look inside. Many antiques worth seeing, it's like a small museum. :)

Well....there's nothing really French about this place and why on earth would you want French food here anyway. We stayed at the (very good) hotel right next to the restaurant so we went there for dinner and a couple of times for breakfast.

The breakfast was cheap and good so I'd recommend it. For a major meal though I think you have much better options.

We almost didn't stop here because it was so dark and quiet and had few customers, but I was intrigued by the mixed menu and house-brewed beer. 52 RMB for the blonde, 88 RMB for a huge platter of beer-braised fish -- this was the maogu yu, which the waitress says has fewer bones than the ordinary carp priced at 60 RMB. Prices are definitely on the high side -- 28 RMB for broccoli stir-fry, 20 RMB for a plate of peanuts. The French food was even more expensive but ultimately we elected to eat Chinese dishes.

Very strange ambience -- a huge lofty dining area with impossibly high ceilings. A turtle swimming in a huge tank. Old painting of a Chinese lady smoking opium on one wall. Another wall features a case of old relics, mostly Buddhist and Confucian but a couple of Jesus figurines. It's like it was once a jazz-era dance hall.

Anyway, food was tasty, if basic, Chinese dishes. The blonde beer was pretty good. Attentive and polite service. Best of all, not noisy like some other places on the street -- no huskers!

Ordered a couple of pizzas, taste was very good and the size was also enough. The only problem I found was on the beer, 16 yuan the cheapest. It's the most expensive beer I had paid in China but the weather was very hot, the beer very cold and I very weak. Otherwise they would deserve 5 points.

Ate here 3 nights in a row and didn't pay more than 50 yuan on any night and that included a beer. Would recommend the Pork stuffed aubergines and the crispy beef. Staff were very good and a great place to sit and watch the world go by.
