The Dunhuang Silkroad hotel is fantastic way to experience the Silk Road. It’s very close to the sand dunes, has just beside the show and has the best roof top terrace EVER! It’s great that they serve the breakfast on the roof top and it’s great for star gazing with a beer late at night.

Breakfast could be improved with some fresh juices, but the freshly done noodles compensate for everything.

We stayed at unique Silk Road Dunhuang Hotel (敦煌山莊) when we made a trip to Dunhuang.
The hotel has a splendid entrance, gorgeous and well-decorated lobby. The Hotel followed a unique architectural design of Tang Dynasty.
Our bedroom was adequate, well set with two beds, decent/simple sitting area, small closet, and modest bathroom. Service was great. Wi-fi was adequate. We enjoyed Hotel’s unpretentious but ample breakfast on the open rooftop of the Hotel with a brilliant view.
We enjoyed the stay.

Loved staying here. The rooms are so in keeping with the area. And the eating area has an awesome view of the dunes. The food offered was varied and tasty. Close to Crescent Lake. The staff was friendly and some spoke English. Can’t go wrong staying here.

Dunhuang is located next to the Gobi Desert, and we were apprehensive about the quality of the hotels in this remote area of China. From the moment we had entered the hotel lobby, we were pleasantly surprised at how nice this hotel was in terms of quality of the room, service, location and views of the surrounding area.
The hotel lobby is very nice and large in size - there is a huge, lovely mural that is located directly above the front check-in desk. The hotel exterior and public areas were very clean and very nicely decorated. There are two (2) restaurants at this hotel -- one is a traditional Chinese restaurant and the other is a western style restaurant that is located on the top (4th floor) floor above the main lobby. The western style restaurant is also the location where breakfast is served each morning. The view of the surrounding area from this 4th floor restaurant is stunning - the sand hills of the Gobi Deseret surrounds the back side of the hotel providing great views of the huge sand dunes. We had both breakfast and dinner here at this restaurant and we thoroughly enjoyed the scenery.

Our hotel room was very nice - very clean and beautifully decorated. We had a room upgrade to one with a view of the Gobi Desert from the bedroom window - nice! We had spent two (2) nights at this hotel and wished we could stay longer because the rooms were so comfortable and the food and service at the restaurants was very good. Also, the waitresses at the western restaurant understand and speak English which is great for me since I cannot speak any Chinese. Usually restaurants in the remote areas of China do not have English speaking restaurant employees. To make ordering at this restaurant easier, the menu had photos of the items as well as English descriptions.

As for evening entertainment, there is very nice show theater that is located behind the hotel property and is easy walking distance from the hotel. The show was very entertaining and plenty of music and action, and to make things more interesting, the whole seating area rotates from one stage to another stage - nice!

In summary, we had a great time at this hotel - clean, comfortable, good food and service.
