If you are in town with some time on your hands - take a stroll down the street. I certainly wouldn’t make an effort just to go there. It’s basically a tourist shopping street and there are some food preparation demos as you walk. Look for the hairy tofu - a Huangshan speciality
We traveled to 9 locations in China. We were so happy to spend time on this great street. There are so many fine artisan shops where you can buy quality unique items and gifts. Sorry we did not have more time to shop. None the touristy junk you find everywhere else.
We visited this street as soon as we arrived in Huang Shan and were very taken with the interesting buildings which were full of little artisan shops. There was wood carving and many different types of food being prepared in a traditional way. We stopped at a coffee shop, I don’t remember the name but the owner was very accommodating with our lack of Mandarin.
Like so many other old streets in China, this is lined with old or old-looking building which are shops selling mostly similar stuff - tea, local snacks, brushes, ink-slabs, paper, etc, in this case. Compared to many others, however, an advantage is the broader street.
Shopping while admiring the ancient architecture in one place! The shops sells souvenirs, calligraphy and art materials, local produce like tea and chrysanthemum flowers, snacks, etc. A nice walk through of the streets in cool weather.
