Great, quiet place for hiking horse riding or just relaxing in the hammocks. The food was really nice and the (German) staff super friendly. The room was spotless and cozy. We managed the gravel road to get there in a tiny rental car and had absolutely no problems. Would love to stay here again!!

If you look for a green, quiet and sunny place to relax close to the Andes in Chile, you have found it. One would not expect such a nice, well maintained place in a still a kind of remote valley like the Rio Hurtado valley. Take the paved road from Ovalle or the more scenic route on the dirt road from Vicuña, crossing three passes, remote settlements, it is the same 1.5h travel time. Just don't try the dirt road when it is raining if you don't want to have a real adventure. Arrive and have a rest at the terrace, enjoy the menu in the restaurant. Get to know about the stars above and have a quiet sleep. Next day get up, get out on the front porch and listen, the only thing you hear is the wind in the trees. Forget about time, if you really want to know ask the sundial in the garden. Have a walk along the river, take a horseback ride, three hours or several days, you choose. One thing is for sure, once you may have to leave your batteries are recharged and you think already when to come back.

Room Tip: All eight rooms are nice and quiet.

We just spent two days at the Hacienda during the low season in August. I was nervous by the guide book's description of the road there from Vicuna but actually it wasn't that bad and the scenery was SPECTACULAR and well worth the few hair-raising inclines and turns. Added to the feeling of getting-away-from-it-all. When we got to the Hacienda -- Wow! It added ot hte wonderful experience that we had the place all to ourselves. Our two small children (4 and 6) had an absolute blast running free around the property while we had nothing to worry about -- no cars, no cliffs to fall off (at least right by the Hacienda), etc. Just a few friendly animals to play with (they loved feeding the horses carrots) and a fun "planet trail" to explore. During the day we went on two long, wonderful full day treks on extremely well-marked trails (which we have to this point not found on our trip in Chile) so little worry of getting lost, and lots of beautiful scenery, panoramic views, and just the right amount of danger and excitement (e.g. climbing up cliffs on a ladder, etc.). The staff was very kind and friendly, and packed us a to go picnic lunch so we could spend the entire day on the trails. In the evening there was stars galore, a lovely fire, excellent pisco sours (made from citrus grown on the property), games, and DELICIOUS food. Oh -- the heaters in the room also worked which was a pleasant surprise :-)

It takes some effort to get there. We came in from the direction of Ovalle which is a lot less windy and narrow then Vicuna. The views are amazing both on the drive in and out if you continue on to Vicuna.

The place is just a perfect Chilean dude ranch with lots of hiking trails, swimming holes and horse back ridding. We extended our stay to be able to explore the area more. I think we stayed 3 nights in all. Great meals- dinners were three courses. Lunch was a la carte but lots of good options. They grow some of their own veggies and raise chickens and eggs.

The staff isn't there to bother you but are very helpful when you ask them anything.

Take a horse back ride by starlight. Not for the faint at heart, but truly magical. Honestly the area is spectacular and very few people around.

Best Pisco Sour we had all trip. Good wine selection and good Wifi Connection.

Beds are comfortable but the doubles are small. We had both a room with two singles and one room with a double. It would have been cozy with two in the double so consider that when choosing which room to book.

Great for families or couples or small groups of friends looking for a place really out of the way.

This place was really one of the highlights of the trip.

A really great place to stop for a few nights.

Room Tip: Don't forget you are at a Ranch not a resort. Think rustic charm with all the amenities you need.

perfect place to totally rest and relax a couple of days...
Old hacienda, beautifull and all very well maintained, in the beautifull semi desert Hurtado valley. Horse riding is the main destination purpose for guests. But it also has great hiking trails. If not, relax in the various places in the garden and nearby river.
The rooms are very clean and spartanly furnished...and the double bed is defenitely not double!: far to narrow. So we didn´t sleep well because of the small bed.. But that did not spoil our stay!
The shared terrace is lovely and cosy. Also the common room. We had good wheather, so had our meals outside. Breakfast and dinner is good (dinner is a set menu, no choice...and preferably to be booked in advance). The hacienda is nowwhere near, so you are probably going to have the meals at the hacienda..
The staff, very young German girls, are very guestfriendly and make you feel at home and welcome..
