So after reading a lot of reviews before we went (15th July for two weeks 4 adults, 1 7 year old, 1 10 month old) I was nervous! We have stayed in 4/5 star all inc in Canaries and Turkey.

This is a great hotel! Maybe people just had an unfortunate experience but we were surprised and wondered what people were moaning at! Yes a 5 star in London or Paris may be different, but this is a lovely hotel.
All the staff work hard, they are all pleasant (maybe the panini by the beach need a lesson in smiling) the cleaners and ground people do a fantastic job!

The food is lovely but a bit limited, everyday has two fresh fish and two fresh meats. Plus lots of salad choice, a different hot potato, a veggie hot section with three choices, the kids area is basically two different pasta styles, two different pasta sauces and a pizza. Three different soup choices too. Lots of breads. After two weeks we were a bit bored of the food, that being said it was nice. We felt a theme night would have been good, each night to mix it up a bit. And also a few more choices maybe. We visited the Italian, but again is buffet. The food is lovely and makes a change. But I think this hotel is missing a nice a la carte. Just be nice not to have to walk round every night and actually be served. I think if that was added this hotel would be brilliant and would get 5 star from us!

You get fresh pool towels everyday too which is good. Drinks are nice, prob nicest we’ve had at the hotels

Pool temp is perfect.

It is a busy hotel, but always sun beds round the pool. You can’t reserve before 8am which is good. We always at lunch at 12:30 and dinner at 6 and the restaurant wasn’t too busy then, if you left it later it was a bit.

We really enjoyed having a drink after dinner on the balcony, it was lovely and away from the crowds, esp when they had live music.

Once a week they came round the pool with champagne and melon for the kids which was nice. And then one week we had sangria and live music and another Bulgarian drink and bread which was a nice touch.

The water slides are great, panini are nice. You can basically eat all day! Fresh doughnuts, panini, ice cream hit by the beach, German beer garden with lovely food.

The old town is def worth a visit. 10 lev for the boat taxi on the hotel beach which is great.

The two weeks everyday was forecast storms, this ruined it. Everyday we did have sun but some mornings started wet, or we were back in the room a couple times at 3/4 due to weather. We had a huge storm one night which leaked water all in our parents room. This is the only reason I prob wouldn’t return to bulgaria, the weather was unsettled! That being said, since we are home the forecast is now sun all day everyday so maybe just bad luck!

Our return flight meant leaving at 4am, the hotel gave us a nice breakfast pack each.

Also I didn’t see one mosquito!

The only slight thing when we landed, we had no bel boy to help us load all our bags, with two kids and me with a bad back it would have been nice. Once we got in the hotel and had loaded them ourselves he took them to our room, then stood waiting for a tip!!!! We said we hadn’t got any money yet.....he still stood there and said what currency he took! Then he just stood there waiting for ages until we asked him to go. Thought this was so rude, esp after we had loaded them up ourselves!!! The bel boy helping us on our last day was lovely though.

Before our vacation, I had made a fair amount of research. What I wanted was a family friendly hotel, where our young children could have their own bedroom connected to ours, a hotel all inclusive and close to the beach. We were looking for a hotel mid to high range, and Sol Nessebar Palace seemed to be the best option for us. When we got here, there had been a mix up from our agency, and our reservation was for to double roms, without the connection door. With boys aged 5 and 8, this was not ideal for us. We understand that the hotel had booked us in for what they had been requested, but we felt there was little understanding that this was a problem for us. A little friendliness goes a long way, but none to be seen. The day after luckily came an offer to change to identical rooms, only diffrence being the connecting door. The hotel called this an upgrade, and charged us 420 euro for it. It seemed unfair as we were certain this was what we were booked in for, and especially since the rooms had no other enhancements. The only diffrence was the door, and we were given a 20 minute window to make a dicision and move out of our rooms. We changed rooms, and fineally got what was our main reason for choosing this hotel. The thought of moving to another hotel had crossed my mind, but this would have left me short of so many things that are on the plus side with this resort. The food is good, the entertainment popular with the kids, the waterslides amazing and the area is huge. Nice and clean, and with gelateria, panini grill etc spread out over the park. We love how it is close to the beach, and in a quiet area. Lot of things to do for the kids both during the day and the evening. I just don’t know if I will come back as I was so disappointed of how our initial problem was solved.

Dear Mette K,

Thank you for choosing us, as well as for meeting me today and giving me the chance to explain the additional payment.
The family room (two doubles near to each other with interconnecting door) is actually another accommodation type and costs more.
Reading your great feedback about our property we hope you will visit us again, booking a family room with the travel agent, in order to avoid the additional costs in the hotel.

Thank you again and best wishes from all of our team,

Warm regards,

First experience of Bulgaria, very friendly people and really interesting area to visit. Very clean hotel, good selection of food, plenty of sun beds by the pool and on the beach. Fresh donuts by the pool mid morning and games in the pool daily. Frequent short buses daily to Nessabar, which is worth a visit.

Room Tip: Sea view over looking the pool.

We have been to Bulgaria before but this was our first time to Nessebar. We picked the hotel because of the proximity to Nessebar (approx 20 mins walk from the hotel to New Nessbar with a further 20 min walk to the old town). There is a bus service from just outside the hotel, alternatively there is a water taxi from the hotel's beach (In Summer 18 this cost 10 Lev per person (approx £5 pp each way).
The rooms were large, with good air con, bathrooms a little dated, but clean. We found the cleanliness very good around the Sol Nessebar Resort and service in the restaurant and bars was fast and with a smile! We never had a problem with seating in the restaurant (as a party of 5 travelling in July). There's definitely something for everyone at the buffet and the food quality was very good.
The grounds are shared between the 3 hotels, the Palace (in the centre) with the Mare and the Bay to either side. The grounds are all shared, but you need to use the main restaurant and sunbeds around the pool area of the hotel you are staying in (good idea and it kept everyone evenly spread out!) Sunbeds at the waterpark and the beach are fine to use by any guests. The water slides operate to a timetable Jun - Sept and were excellent. All with lifeguards and they ensured someone had completely exited the slide before the next person was allowed down.
The animation team were great - lots of activities going on across the complex. English was the common language though English guests are by far in the minority - no issue to us at all.
The beach is sandy and the setting very pretty.
The Palace is classified as 5* with the Bay and Mare 4*, but these are Bulgarian classifications so take with a pinch of salt and a smile. Bulgaria is very good value and if you can avoid getting hung up on star ratings you'll have a really nice time in a clean and friendly property with lots to do for all ages. We had a great time. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Balconies with sea view are twice the size of those without the sea view

Visited in end of June and can say the only thing I didn't like was the weather ,rain and storms most days and evenings , will definately go back again to the hotel , it's a 15 min walk to the old town of nessebar and lots of shops and bars for food and drinks , just watch out for the women selling cheap tat jewellery .
