“Good location”
Reviewed 15 May 2012

The hotel is well situated just a short walk from Ipanema beach and has plenty of bars and eating places very close
Our first impression of our room was one of disappointment as we had paid extra for what we thought was a better hotel than the one selected in our tour. The decor, bathroom and electrical sockets certainly need updating and refreshing, so our opinion of 4* hotels in Rio in question.
However we returned for another night later on in our holiday before moving on to another resort and the room this time was excellent so they may be in the process of refurbishing throughout......
hopefully?

Was there for 2 night and I would say the hotel is good but to expensive for the overall quality.

The service is fair but bellow, I would say, Brazilian standards. For example I had to go several times to the reception to manage problems with my reservation and reception personnel was not as nice as I would expect.

The room was fair and clean. A bit old but with plenty of space. Being on the 4th floor I did not had any view, besides buildings. The Bathroom, as the room, has plenty of space but also looks a bit old.

The location, on the other hand, is wonderfull just 50 meters from the beach and walking distance from some nice restaurants in the area. To Ipanema is 10 minutes walk, along the beach. From the swiming pool on the top you have an amazing view of Rio, so it is really worth to go to the top floor. The Breakfast is reasonable, just missing the so ypical Brazilian juices (the only option was orange juice....)

Overall evaluation is good but, as many places in Brazil, overprices. So I would say is a good option for Rio for business and leasure.

Rio is just an expensive place. We paid 2X of a similar place in Buenos Aires, although that was over 3X less than the price posted on the door. However, we loved the location.

This place is just a few steps from Ipanema Beach and 15 minute walk to Copacabana Beach without the beach front pricing. The immediate surrounding is quite active with lots of nice restaurants shops, banks etc. We particularly liked the restaurant 'Girl from Ipanema' where the song was born. They have really good steaks served over a hot skillet. Another good place is a Brazilian barbecue with great sashimi called Carretao which is a 5 minute walk. Downtown and the Lapa district with the bustling night life is a R$30 cab ride away. They have a nice swimming pool on the roof with adjoining sauna, steam room, gym and cafe with a view of the Christ statue and a partial view of the beach. Hotel staff were quite friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and has outside seating next to the street. At night, the place is a Sushi Restaurant.

On the down side, the bathroom fixtures need a little upgrading. The shower always drip behind the curtain and get the floor all wet. I had to always put a hand towel behind the curtain to stop the water from leaking onto the floor. The worst thing here is the WiFi. First of all, it is not free. Moreover, it is pathetically slow. I ran a speed test and here is what I got the first time... Ping=1764ms, download=0.97Mbps, upload=0.05Mbps. On my second try, the ping timed out althgether. The speed test graph shows zero activity for half of the download test. So, forget getting any of your photos uploaded. Even getting email is a struggle. I am knocking the hotel service to 2 stars because of this. Well, I used the WiFi for 2 days and they only charged me for one. So I can't complain too much. I was told all hotels in Brazil charges for Internet. For the price it ought to be free and working properly. I got better connection in small Thai islands. The free WiFi in the nearby restaurants are much better.

Overall, I would still recommend this hotel due to its location and price.

Room Tip: On a higher floor facing west, you might get a little beach view.

Hard to beat location - great for ipanema beach and nightlife. But rooms were tired and in need of modernisation. Hotel security non existant. Things not working (room safe, breakfast toaster,) just not repaired .A 3 star hotel charging 5 star prices.

If you want to stay in Ipanema the title of my review says it all. It's also just a 15 - 20 minute walk to Copacabana. We stayed on the Ipanema floor the room was lovely and clean, bathroom adequate, I liked the separate "hallway" entrance area too. There was a large coffee machine in the room that produced a small cup of coffee (espresso). A printer was also included. We had an ongoing problem with the safe not working, a couple of men came on 2 separate occasions with new batteries.
The view from our room was great, we had a side view of the fabulous beach and Christ the Redeemer Statue, and from the other window a full view of Corcovado Hill and Christ the Redeemer Statue which at night is illuminated.
The book about Rio de Janeiro provided in the room was really good.
The pool area was small but adequate. Why would you stay around the pool !
Breakfasts were good and plentyful.
The beach service was great, highly recommended.
*But take heed, I had the worst mojito ever here*
