Best rib with watercress in Rio de Janeiro. The place is very traditional and the meal is delicious. You will not find tourists in this place, only people that works downtown and go there to have lunch.

The ribs served here are really phenomenal! I don't understand much about meat cuts but I don't remember seeing it exactly like this often. Or maybe it is the way it ends up looking like when ready. This is a huge hunk of meat, cooked to tenderness, still very juicy. It is served with watercress and manioc (agrião e aipim), brazilian style. Make sure you are hungry and in good company. I would not advise this for less than three people. We went in a large group, ordered more than one set of ribs plus extra sides like rice, beans, fries, farofa and, in the end, wound up with left overs. The place is very traditional among downtown office workers and, even though a little hidden in an alley (thus the name "escondidinho"), is constantly crowded during lunch hours. It is also not cheap, specially if you are not sharing (around R$ 120 for the ribs).

Downtown Rio in a very narrow street. Always overcrowded for lunch during working weekdays. Food average and one dish serves 3. The noise inside is very high, sometimes uncomfortable. Beer is very cold though. Will return just if my work colleagues ask me to!

Excellent to try local food, although the most common plate is Costela (Ribs) is not the only thing they served, however most of the people ask for the Costela, tender, juicy and tasty, good for the price. One portion can serve around 3 people. If you go for lunch need to be there early before 12 or late after 1 pm.

I live in Rio, but if it was not the case I would surely travel to visit this restaurant at least once a year, cause i just cannot live without this watercress. It may sound like an overstatement, but I assure you it is a life changing experience for watercress lovers like me.
The restaurant is simple and there are WAY to many tables for such a small space, but yet, it is a must go at the old downtown.
