Boipeba is a piece of paradise just a few hours from Salvador. The Island is still very quiet and even though there are many tourists around it hasn’t lost its essence. The perfect place to go and take a time off from the “real world”. bOipeba is for those into nature, as a lot of walking is needed and there isnt much infra structure on the island

The only problem is you have to take the boat to get there and it is sometimes not so good. The beach over there is full of natural pools

Just visited Boipeba and stayed at a local home.
Two ways to go there from Salvador:

-Air: Addey taxi Aereo (google phone number as it may change) offers flights from Salvador to Boipeba on small (6 seater) piper single engine planes. Fare is about u$s 200 each way per person. Flight often stops in Morro de São Paulo either on the way there or back. If they fly you nonstop it is about 30 minutes. If it stops add 15 minutes.
*Upside is that you arrive quickly (land option can take up to 5 hours depending on traffic leaving Salvador--see land option below). Pilot was great.
**Downside is that plane is very small (if you are not used to it), very loud (take earplugs) and Addey is hard to book directly (use local travel agency or have your hotel book if you are staying in Salvador before heading there). Luggage is limited in size and weight (max 15 kilos or 33 lbs.) Think of a station wagon with wings...
Also arm yourself with a bit of patience as things here are on the slow side so flight may not always operate at the time scheduled. Departs from small terminal before main airport and somewhat tricky to find...take right turn after shell gas station prior to airport access.
You land across from Boipeba and you are taken to Boipeba by tractor to small boat the crosses you to beach in front of the center of Boipeba. Wear flip flops and light clothing as you will get your feet wet disembarking. Also have 30 reais in hand for *tax* when you arrive as well as depart.

-Land: you can hire a driver to take you to Valença (port is called Graciosa) about 3 hours depending on traffic when you leave Salvador. Then an hour on speedboat from Graciosa to Boipeba. Drive is a bit nerve wrecking given curvy road, trucks etc.
Speedboat ride is beautiful and a soothing way to repair nerves after drive. It travels through rivers and no chop on boat so calm crossing.

Boipeba itself is still relatively low key (compared to Morro) with a quaint town Velha (old) Boipeba full of restaurants and open air market with souvenirs. No cars on island so depending where you stay porters are available to help you with luggage. The island is hilly so you will exercise your legs and heart.
Beaches are amazing and some you may chose to hire a boat if you can afford it. Other option is to take tractor and walk along beaches.
Some memorable almost deserted beaches are Praia dos Castelhanos, Moreré (has a little town where tractor arrives from Boipeba) and praia Paraíso (aptly named) is amazing lined with coconut trees and nice breezes.
Tides are quite marked and reefs fully uncovered depending on the time of the day.
The island felt very safe. Arm yourself with insect repellent and sun screen.

Restaurants: many in town and beaches have as well.

**memorable** In town and highly rated (1 in Boipeba) is Flor da Lua. First class, delicious and fabulous presentation, unlike others on island. Swiss/Brazilian couple own and prices are kept reasonable for what you get. Next to port area. Go when tide is high and sit in outside area overlooking boats anchored.

*less memorable is Guido on the beach at Praia de Cueira. Famous for lobster (be prepared to shell out u$s 50 for lobster but hey you are in an island and beach...) pretty crowded with day tours that come in in hoards...

Incredible and quiet beach stay. We stayed in Morere which was the best place to stay on the island for us. Very close to the amazing beaches and sights! Ask any local for help for where to find things as they are all really friendly. We stayed at an airbnb cottage which was incredible and cheap!! Lovely place would recommend!

Boipeba is a wonderful place where you have to take some time to reach. Excluded from roads this beautiful island can only be reached by boat. Because of New Year it was more busy than usual but even than the ambiance is tranquill. Lot's of things to see and do, ideal place for a great holiday.
