We love this restaurant and return for two meals each time we visit Snowbird (about every 3 years). The service is friendly and attentive but not overbearing. The food is superb with something for everyone. The portions are generous but make sure you still get an app and an entire. We had the bacon wrapped scallops and trout cakes. Delicious! We tried 2 different soups creak of garlic cauliflower and a fennel soup. Both delicious. Enters we enjoyed included sea bass, elk, rack of lamb , blackens cod, and filet en crout. Presentation was excellent and flavor superb. Hidden gem!

We had a big group of friends for dinner. Table was set very nicely with plenty of space. Friendly atmosphere and distinctive decor are quite impressive. Food was delicious and California vine sampling were very enhancing the whe whole experience

Had a group dinner there.

This is the closest thing to Ketchum's "Pio" in Little Cottonwood Canyon. It's an Alta institution. Warm dark interior on the "rustic" side.

The food is more interesting than one would expect. And yes, they have kale. Elk chop is the way to go.

The receptionist appeared to be having a bad day. We felt tolerated more than welcomed. Once past the receptionist, the service was cheerful if overtaxed. My group included a birthday and they provided a gluten free cake--nice. But they didn't think to ask if anyone wanted ice cream with it. They could use an additional server at peak dinner hours.

The place is LOUD. Hard to hear people at the other end of the table.

Overall it hits the spot for a guy's ski weekend group dinner. Here were probably five such tables in there with us that night.

If you are going as a couple, I would ask for a booth--much more romantic. The ski loft tables are novel, but a bit cramped and close to your neighbor.

Just recently had my second visit to The Shallow Shaft....it was every bit as good and memorable as the first time that I was here several years ago. The food is first class second to none in the area. I had the Cassoulet with andouille sausage and duck and it was fantastic. I also had a warm Kale salad (where else is this available?) and the spicy mussels for an appetizer. My waiter was in his ninth year here. I find it amazing that they can keep up the high quality food, varied extensive menu and long term employees in what I assume is only a short seasonal operation.
