I really like this South Austin park and love to go for exercise when the weather is nice. It is very popular with joggers, walkers, cyclists, or people just exercising their dog. There is plenty to do for an afternoon of fun for all ages.
There is a playground for younger children, volleyball, tennis and basketball courts and picnic tables/barbeque-ing areas (when fire is permitted). There is also a covered pavilion with picnic tables that is available by reservation and bathrooms close by.
This park is best for exploring though. The main picnic area has some points of interest but the main trail is off to the side and a little over a mile long, great for hiking. There is even integrated workout stations along the trail and posted signs telling you which exercise the station is for and how to use it. It is best to stay on the main trail but there are foot paths carved along you can take.
You can see "wildlife" like road runners, snakes and deer. Snakes are the scariest thing about the park.
Overall it is close to neighborhoods and quiet, there is always people around but I've never seen it so bustling that you can't enjoy. The park can be a bit scary and a little too quiet if you're alone and there's not too many people but it always feels safe.
