Henry James has always been a great place to have bbq in Asheboro. They serve you A LOT of food and the sides are always hot and fresh. If you have room after all of the bbq, their cobblers are great.

Stopped in for Lunch and was disappointed in both the quality of the food and price. Low quality and high priced. $9 for lunch. Chopped plate, slaw, hush puppies, BBQ and tea. Been there and DONE with that.

It's a cafeteria style restaurant where you order and pickup your food from the counter. It was quick but they only had pork on Monday, no beef or even ribs. The pork was dry with no flavor. No Okra, very Disappointing.

Sliced BBQ was not slices, but slivers of lean pork & not an iota of fat or pork flavor. It was only partially tender, but that didn't save it.

Chopped BBQ had a bit more barbecue flavor, with some discernible fat, but was still not up to other restaurants' barbecue.

Fish sandwich had good crumby crust but was mushy and undercooked inside. Crinkle cut fries were mealy, as if they had been thawed & refrozen.

Slaw tasted like it was based on pickles, not cabbage.

The good: hushpuppies! So come get hushpuppies here & go elsewhere for the barbecue.

Their bbq and hush puppies are always good BUT their desserts are awful. We had tried the peach cobbler which is very bland in the past. Canned peaches, canned peach juice and a very thin, tastes like lard, crust. No butter and no sugar. Nothing on the crust to help its flavor either.
Said OK, the banana pudding is listed on the marquee I'll try that. What a complete disappointment! Instant artificially flavored banana pudding, thin layer of bland cool whip and stale vanilla cookie crumbs on top. Terrible, actually worst than the cobbler. Plus there were NO bananas in the pudding!! I asked and was told that was correct, no bananas. $2.19 for 3 tablespoons. They need to try Gary's banana pudding from Concord, NC. Noe that's great pudding and BBQ.
