We stayed here one night. The first challenge was finding the place - there is no name "Grand Regency" anywhere on the building. It's called "Brent" or something like that, but no one ever tells you this. Since we were using GPS navigation, and we were tired of driving around looking for a building called the Grand Regency, we had to stop at the hotel the GPS told us was the Grand Regency (it wasn't), and ask them where it was. Fortunately, it was the tall white tower nearby.

The next challenge was parking - there is none for hotel guests. There is a parking lot, but it's for residents. This tower sells condo units, and apparently the Grand Regency people bought a few floors of condos to use as a hotel - but they didn't buy any parking spaces. We were very lucky to find a space next to the hotel. They informed us that guards are outside the building 24/7, so the car was safe. The neighborhood isn't the best in Manila, though there's definitely worse.

The room/unit itself was a one-bedroom arrangement with a separate bedroom, small kitchen (full size refrigerator, microwave, sink, cabinets, and kettle), dining table, couch (made of gray vinyl, and old and hard), and a large LCD TV in the living area. The TV was equipped with Cignal cable, so there were lots of channels. However, you had to sit on the couch to watch TV (none in the bedroom) and the couch was not comfortable. The free wifi was fast and reliable.

The bathroom was tiny - admittedly I'm a large guy, but I had to twist my shoulders to get to the sink, the space was too narrow to stand facing the mirror. The shower used to have a sliding curved glass door, but some previous guest apparently broke it, and they never replaced it with anything - so now the shower sprays out into the bathroom. The shower head is a nice "Rain" design with a large spray pattern. The hotel provides one tiny soap bar only. The shower should be equipped with a "push button" type wall dispenser for shampoo and conditioner or body wash - ours just had shampoo, someone had stolen the other dispenser.

The unit is equipped with two air conditioners, and these work well. To conserve power, the entire unit powers off when you remove the room key from the magic "wall switch", such as when you leave the room. this includes the air conditioners and refrigerator, so the ref isn't reliable for food storage.

The bedroom has a large closet, and had a king size, comfortable bed with 4 pillows and a comforter. The room itself should have had less closet, and moved the bed away from the wall. It is difficult to get around to the far side where the air conditioner is. I do appreciate the big, comfortable bed, though.

We ordered food from the only restaurant in the hotel, to be sent up to the room while we worked on organizing paperwork. It's more of a cafe than a restaurant, but it offers 12 or 15 various basic foods, such as pork chop and spaghetti. We tried the pork chop, and tried to order the chicken skewer, but it wasn't available. We ended up ordering the grilled shrimp. The chop was actually adobo (not listed on the menu as adobo), and 2 of the 5 smallish shrimp were completely mushy and inedible. Overall, use the cafe downstairs for coffee only, and go to the Robinson's Place mall across the road for all your food, even if you're busy - take a break and don't eat here.

All the staff was very nice, and helpful. They try to do a great job, and run a nice hotel.

Generally, though, I would not stay here again. There are many hotel choices in the area.

We stayed in one of their 1 bedroom suites; had a microwave & fridge, TV & good A/C, but, the STINK from the cigarette smoke was too much for us. VERY close to a SM mall with hundreds of eating choices..... We had coffee & breakfast in the hotel lobby each morning for a reasonable fee.... We are not smokers so an unpleasant stay for us, but if you are a smoker this might do it for you!

Room Tip: You get a better view of the smog from the upper floors!

Stayed her for four nights in late march 2015. The room was moderne and good with kitchen facilites like micro, and fridge. There was a small balcony outside the room. Superior view from the room, partly to the bay and partly to the city. The area outside the hotel was very busy and poluted from the many cars. Difficult to strall around and difficult to cross the streets.
I use krutches - I looked forward to try the swimming pool, but there was difficult stairs, a lack of bannisters etc that made that impossible,
I would not stay in this hotel again.

I stayed here for one night in April. I had the superior room for about $50 sale. Everything in the room worked well even the hot water!!!. This place is very close to Robinson Place, if you walk about 2 minutes if you run about 30 seconds haha. Many eating places, money changers ( best go western union for rates closer to the stock market) also night life and massage if your into that.

The place is Birch Tower that will make it easy to find. Close to airport, taxi is about 120 peso make sure meter is used always in the Philippines.

Other wise I enjoyed my stay here and will recommend this place to all travelers especially my fellow Hawaiians. I found a place to return to in Malate, I hope they keep up the standards required to maintain repeat visitors.

Room Tip: Keep checking the web this hotel changes rate daily and a 1 bed room suite could be had for about $55 a night
