Owner description: Central Market began life as a wet market in 1888, built by Yap Ah Loy, the city’s Chinese Kapitan. It served as a prominent landmark in colonial and modern-day Kuala Lumpur. When the wet market was relocated in the 1980s, the Malaysian Heritage Society successfully petitioned against the demolition of the building. Now, Central Market Kuala Lumpur is an iconic attraction and a delightful destination for tourists, shoppers and art lovers.

Located between Chinatown and the Klang River...two story shopping market with eateries and many different shops offering t-shirts, artwork, local crafts and souvenirs. Clean and air conditioning help from the KL heat...opens at 10am.

Nice place to shop without children,
Very crowded,
The shops owners are not friendly,
You need to purge because the prices are not fixed,
I don’t advice to go in the middle day because of traffic jam.

Lot of batik clothing reasonable quality. Reasonable pricing. Quality varies - you get what you pay for. Covered market area. Can do this and china town just up the road in few hours.

As a Malaysian myself I find plentiful artifacts and souvenirs here. The interior of the colonial-architectured building is decorated nicely and the brown colour theme gives a traditional Malayan setting. I would personally reccommend this place to be visited once at least.

the market was very clean and because it was indoors it was all air conditioned. Many of the stores displayed similar goods, but there still existed a good variety available. Be aware the only toilet available costs to use and you are provided one square of TP, bring your own.
