Having read so much about Dotonbori, our group went there for shopping and dinner and were overwhelmed with the crowds and touristy atmosphere. Another evening we went to Tenjimbashisuji (a few steps from Minamimorimachi station) and enjoyed it much more. There are so many nicer quality shops in my opinion, and we found a wonderful quiet cafe (in english 'The Bottom of the Mountain") which had great sake.

We caught the train to JR Temma and when we left the station we found ourselves smack in the midst of this fabulous street... 2 km’s of independent shops and cafes under a covered canopy.
It’s the roof that makes the difference. You can stroll the street rain or shine. There are chemists, 100yen shops, cafes galore, Handbags, homewares etc etc.

Busy shopping street we were hoping for some local shops, handicrafts and souvenirs etc but it’s mostly chain stores you get else where in the world and tax free junk shops however there was one good stationary store where we bought a lot of washi tape (which we struggled to find elsewhere) I’ve added a photo of what it’s called for anyone else who wants to buy some
