This is sort of a Japan, meets France, molecular cuisine. Love that the chefs serve directly to the table and mom is the door greeter and collects the money.
The food is innovative and tasty - had some new flavors, and the service and atmosphere is top notch. It is frankly a good deal for the food.

This is one for the books, the meal is just marvelous in terms of technical execution and vision. Much more is its insightful use of local fresh ingredient from nearby places... The result is an experience that appeals to the practical sensibilities because it makes the price reasonable. This restaurant is one of the finest examples where you could achieve a 3-star status without much of the hype. The chef was very friendly, devoid of ego... Truly it was the golden feather of the menu, you are able to interact with the chef during and after the meal, talking about what else... food!

Worth the travel, and patience (may be fully booked most of the times)...

I visited this fine restaurant with my partner and two friends, and I must say, the food, the service, the ambience and the value were absolutely perfect. The night started off with our warm welcome at their door. We entered a dimly lit atrium where the warmth was just as warm and welcome as the people, offering us instant respite from the cold weather and city bustle outside. Our coats were left in the cloakroom and we were offered hot cups of yuzu tea while we waited for our tables as we had arrived early. We were then led up the stairs past the kitchen and seated at our table. Communication was a bit difficult at times as only one of us spoke Japanese (and even then not entirely fluently) and staff appeared to be more fluent in Spanish and French than English. Luckily my partner spoke Spanish, so we had two people who could translate for us. What followed that night was, however, absolutely spectacular in terms of culinary skill, creativity and flavour. Everything definitely had that "wow" factor, so there was definitely nothing boring. It was all very exciting, and the price definitely made it the most affordable 3-Michelin star restaurant we could've visited. We are already wondering when we can return and see what the talented Fujiwara Tetsuya and his team at Fujiya 1935 think of next.

Almost two years on, we remember the meal, down to individual dishes. Exquisite Spanish fusion dishes, incredibly chic minimalist decor, top notch service. This place has 2 Michelin stars but deserves 3.

We visited Fujiya 1935 in April 2012 at the end of a 10 day holiday. We hadn’t heard about the place before and picked it due to its three stars in the Michelin Guide.

It is a very small restaurant with a waiting room and kitchen on the ground floor, 4-5 tables on the second floor and bathrooms on the third floor. The atmosphere is somewhat Nordic minimalist in appearance with wooden furniture and birch branches.

The experience can best be described as technical perfection. The chef works wonders with somewhat ordinary ingredients; something which might explain why Fujiya 1935 is the most affordable three star restaurant we have ever visited. As a pleasant surprise, there are also no extra charges for water or tea/coffee so the dinner costs exactly Yen 10,500 per person.

We asked the sommelier to suggest one bottle of white wine and one bottle of red wine and he instantly recommended very good options in the Yen 8,000 range per bottle. This was a welcome move compared to some other restaurants where the sommeliers immediately go for the prestige selections.

Despite having a quite small team in the kitchen, the chef took the time to come to our table several times and explain the dishes. This created a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Please take a look at the pictures to get a feeling for the type of dishes offered.

Highly recommended – we hope to be back!
