Decent hotel, close to food and transport: bus, subway, & train. Shopping convent, too. Japanese size room = small, but comfortable. JPN breakfast included and they will watch your luggage for you. Good deal. More characters, because it won't let me stop?

Very accessible with clean and comfortable rooms. More than enough room by Japanese standards and you get a pretty good breakfast for free. Great deal!

The only downside was that the wifi never connected in my room but fortunately I walked with my own mobile wifi.

Also, the checkin time is pretty late but if you know this in advance you can plan accordingly.

This Toyoko Inn is located just a few minutes away from Nagano Station and is very close to restaurants and shops. Its about a 20 - 25 minute walk to Zenkoji.
For a Westerner, the hotel can feel a little odd, but its amenities are adequate and comfortable. The rooms are small, but manageable as long as you don't have too much luggage. Our only real complaint was that the bed was very firm, almost like sleeping on the floor.
Breakfast is Japanese cuisine and a buffet. The food is good, but be prepared for a crowd and few places to sit.
Although we didn't have a great trip to Nagano, the Toyoko Inn was everything we needed it to be and would be happy staying here again.

For many years I have travelled in Japan,
both on business and vacation. I am sorry
to say that this was the worst hotel I have
stayed in.
The check in/out times are somewhat extreme.
Check out at 10am is not a problem, as I am
always gone before 9am, but a 4 pm check in
Is really rather late. We arrived in the morning
and left our cases whilst visiting Shinonoi and
the Zenkoji. We arrived back at the hotel at
3.30 pm, but this hotel won't release the room
key before 4pm - not a minute earlier. Even though
the room has been cleaned and the key is available
at the front desk.
Having got our key, we went to the room, but unlike
all other hotels, our luggage was not in the room. My
wife went down to reception and was told they required
the receipt they had given on our arrival. They then
produced the two cases and shoulder bag, but provided
no assistance, not even to the lift, as my wife struggled
with all the luggage. Had I known that there was no
service provided by hotel staff, I would have gone down
to fetch the luggage, but I was accustomed to good
service in Japanese hotels.
Twin bed room was very small. A notice on the desk
makes the observation "There is an enough space for
your big luggage under the bed" How you unpack it
whilst it is under the bed is more of a problem.
Beds comfortable. Very small TV, difficult to watch for
the person occupying the bed by the window. Good
mirror over the desk. Bathroom very small, as are the
towels.
Hotel located a few minutes walk from Nagano station-
turn left from station, cross the road and the hotel is
on your right, but you'll probably find plenty of better
hotels before you get there!

My partner and I visited this hotel for a night. For me it is the third time I stay at this hotel. We booked a double room and the receptionist (woman) was blocked and speechless when she realized that we were sharing bed. It was a bit embarrassing for us and she handled the situation to her colleague(a man)... Obviously no preparation for LGBT tourists at all... The other receptionist treated us with respect and professionally. The room was spotless and location is perfect(next to the station).
Breakfast was above Toyoko Inn standards with good rice and variety.
Wifi did not work at all. Common PC did not work at all
