We booked this hotel as a treat to ourselves. The Suiran is picturesque and perfect in almost every way. Comfortable, elegant rooms. We had a room with an onsen and small garden. It was like waking up to a postcard every day. Lovely pressed robes were left each day for us to retire in. Excellent, filling breakfasts are perfect for filling up for nearby sightseeing. The hotel is close to many wonderful shops, the bamboo forest and monkey park. Easy to catch trains can be found in just five to ten minutes of walking. Dinner is one drawback... The hotel has a restaurant with a small menu but the nearby town's restaurants close early, so do take note. The hotels grounds are exquisite and a postcard view at every turn. The only negative besides limited dining was the staff was rather stiff, sometimes in a nervous way and some in an aloof manner, with the exception of th friendly bell staff.

Room Tip: Do opt for the onsen and garden rooms.

amazing location, peaceful mornings, friendly staff, luxurious rooms, great food. There are a few reasonably price places to eat nearby. Great onsen in some rooms as well as public ones for you to use.

Super location, great service and wonderful rooms feel like the time went back many years, you have to do it if u around as u feel in your in village 100 years back and not very modern top high tech country like Japan, where u have 99% automatic toilets seats.
The food is great in the resturant try the Omi steak if can but medium rear.

Suiran is indeed a splurge but one that is worth it! Nearly perfect in every way. From the elegant rooms to the afternoon champagne by the river. Service is exceptional!! Take advantage of the amazing concierge who will help with tours and restaurants in the area. The grounds are private and very quiet in a busy area of Kyoto.

The location is super, just very close to Togetsu-kyo bridge at Arashiyama, Kyoto.
The newly built facility, the western and traditional Japanese mixture, is not big but enough fantastic and the room was absolutely super due I was upgraded to suite with Japanese traditional bath in the balcony, facing to the river.
The food and drinks were also nice in the cafe beside the river and room service (I cannot rate food in the restaurant, not having dinner there).
