Description: Menbakaichidai has been a staple in the community for 30 years - burning through the competition with its famous "Fire Ramen." I innocently assumed that the ramen earned its name for being spicy, as are most "fire" dishes in the culinary world. It wasn't until I was inches away from a four-foot flame, that I finally realized this restaurant had taken things to the next level. From yahoo travel post

Be prepared for a hair-raising/scorching experience when they prep the ramen. Food is very tasty for a somewhat gimmicky place too; recommend the special set (2,260 yen) for a pretty filling meal with a souvenir at a bargain price. Staff were really good with my partner's aversion to pork too, which can be a challenge at times in Japan!

This place is all about the experience. Of course the food is also good, but the whole restaurant is placed to make sure the fire bowls can be prepared save and without making a big mess. Very nice to see! They even have selfie sticks hanging around so you can be filmed during the event.

This place was across the street from our guest house & recommended by the staff there. Small, as most places are & yes, only tourists - however it was a fun atmosphere & a different Ramen experience! Just what we needed after a long day of touring!

If you want to visit someplace unique but only famous for tourists not locals, then we propose to come to Menbakaidai Ramen a.k.a Fire Ramen. It is slightly on the north side of Nijo Castle.

The place capacity is just for eight persons at a time. The unique is you have to enter as a group of eight. So even in a group there's fast eaters and they get out first, and you are next in line, you still can't enter until the last person in the previous group is finished. This way we advise you to come not on normal eating time. The waiting time is about 40 minutes.

When you enter the restaurant, you are to be seated, then the owner will ask for your handphone, put it into a selfie stick, and set it into video mode so make sure you have sufficient memory to take videos.

The Fire Ramen is a ordinary Ramen, with special flammable liquid on the top of the Ramen. The owner will prepare 8 portion of Ramen and then prepare the flame. Then he will put it one by one. Creating a flame experience.

The Ramen taste itself is not bad. But the price is slightly more expensive than other Ramen. That is for an Unique Experience though. The owner is also friendly and can speak English. They will chat with you while you eat and gladly give you some tips exploring Kyoto.

In places like this you expect a good show and a mediocre food. THIS IS NOT THE CASE - they serve a serious bow of tasty noodles (and fried rice & gioza) by a fair price in a funny and simple environment. Trust me, you will be amazed by the place and cordiality of everybody there, from customers to staff.
