Owner description: One of Kyoto's most famous attractions, this temple was originally built in 1397 as a residence for shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. The structure was completely covered in gold leaf, earning it the name Golden Pavilion.

A must, really easy to navigate within the grounds. Just pure beauty even on a bad weather day. Take pictures right at the entrance - it is the best view/angle.
The 4 stars is only because it’s hard to reach by public transport. We took the JR line to Emmachi then a taxi costing 1250 yen.

This Temple is absolutely stunning. Set on a small lake which has little islands with trees, small pagodas and beautiful plants. Painted Gold of coarse makes this a real eye pleaser. Also the grounds are very nicely landscaped which makes for a pleasurable walk and day out. A must see.

Small park with the main attraction is the golden temple. The scenic is very nice and the garden well maintained. Baby trolley not easy since you have stairs to climb at some points.

Again the crowds detract from the Temple. Yes it is covered in gold paint, it's not clad in gold. The garden is okay, not spectacular. Getting there takes longer than seeing it.

The pictures always look amazing of this most beautiful sight, but the reality is even better, whilst ginkaku-ji is lovely, the golden temple is without doubt the top temple to see. For added impact visit during the cherry blossom or autumn time ( also best temperatures). It is a 30 minute bus trip from downtown or central kyoto but a must see sight
